Sup,
I've recently used a friend's Mac, and really enjoyed it compared to the PC. Things are so much simpler once you learn how to use it. Does anyone here have an imac? I was interested in getting one, but just wanted to get some opinions first. If anyone has any thoughts on it, let me know. Thanks, |

Switched in October. Never going back to a PC for home use again unless Apple manages to screw things up.

You will have to transfer the library from your computer to PC. The iPod is PC formatted and will need to be reformatted to Mac to work with a Mac so your music will be erased. As long as your library is on another computer you can transfer the songs and playlists over though.

cool. could you also help me some possible advantages of the imac vs. a pc?
My main reasons so far: 1. works well with itunes/ipods which are great 2. ease of use 3. reliability 4. free myself from Microsoft I'm not really into all the artsy stuff which I know is one of things Mac's are known for. I won't be making any design projects, or have elaborate photo slideshows. I'm just looking for reasons to justify the Mac for someone like me, who will use it for mainly Internet surfing, and Itunes-ipod stuff. let me know, thanks, |

You can look forward to annual bundles from MacHeist and MacUpdate where you can buy a whole lot of softwares for $50 or so and the softwares they have to offer are often pretty good and useful. The bundles are worth hundreds and and a portion of them go to charities.

We would get elaborate mile-long third-party Windows disk-burning questions on our DVD group, and the Mac users would be standing there saying "Um...I wouldn't know, I just use iDVD. ![]() Quote:

Well, Safari is faster at loading. However, Firefox works better with some websites and sometimes the other way around. Though Safari is still an excellent browser to use even though I use Firefox more.

I just hooked up my work computer at home with Road Runner yesterday and have been using that. I want to start using the computer I already had. Do I have to do anything more than simply unhooking the ethernet cord from the work computer, and hooking it up to the other computer? Do I have to turn the modem off and on, or anything like that?

I switched to a Mac Pro back in 2004 and haven't looked back. I still use Windows from time-to-time (thanks to Apple's Boot Camp) but 95% of what I do is on the Mac.
For what you want to do an iMac would be perfect. And as someone pointed out you will have to reformat your iPod to work properly with your Mac. What I would suggest is get yourself enough DVD-R/RW to back up your music collection from iTunes. Can can restore them then onto your Mac. It will take a little time but it's an inexpensive method. Finally Safari. No real benefits over Firefox. I still like some of the features of Firefox over Safari but Safari is a stable and effective browser. I'd recommend experimenting with both and see which you like better. |

I've had my PowerMac G5 for almost 5 years now. One of the best purchases I've made.

Mini and an iBook. Planning on getting an MBP pretty soon here within the next couple of months (most likely wait till they do the multi-touch stuff to it, but most definitely want a Super Drive if not a Blu-ray SuperDrive).
Don't buy into the propaganda... they're not perfect and you're not invincible. Stay up on your updates. Dread the beachball as much as you ever did the hour glass... |
