I have a PS5 with a HDMI 2.1 outpout.
I have a 4K Vizio QX-H1 TV with one HDMI 2.1 eARC port. This is what I want to do: Get an old Sony STR-DN1010 AV Receiver that only supports HDMI 1.4 1080p passthrough but can decode DTS Master HD and Dolby True HD. Hook my PS5 up directly to the TV for the video signal, then run a HDMI cable from the TV's eARC HDMI port to one of the HDMI inputs on the STR-DN1010. Would this allow my receiver to play DTS Master HD and Dolby True HD? My brother can send me the DN1010 rather cheap and I would love if this were possible so I dont have to buy a new receiver that supports 4K/HDR pass through if it isnt necessary thanks to eARC HDMI on this set. |

I can't find anything to say that it received a firmware update to allow eARC. You maybe able to get your HD audio through a splitter, but you'll have to find one that doesn't downscale your AV. The new consoles are quite new so it will take a while for new peripherals to catch up.
ARC will still give you up to 5.1 depending on what your display allows, so it might be worth getting the AVR and waiting for a splitter. |
