Australia PS3 Shuts Itself At Specific Points on Certain Discs - WHY??

I really hope someone can help me with an issue that is greatly nagging me.

Tonight I tried to watch my "Doctor Who: Fury From the Deep" Blu-ray on my PS3 and every time the disc got to the franchise logo during start-up, the console shut itself off. It did the same thing in the exact same place 6 times. I ended up giving up.

When I'm watching another Blu-ray, I go to watch one of the bonus features that's in SD and within a second, the console shuts itself off. For example, go to watch the music video on the "GhostBusters" Blu-ray, within a second of it starting, PS3 turns itself off. Try again, within a second of the MV starting, shuts off.

On my Blu-ray of "The NeverEnding Story" try to watch one of the SD bonus features, within a second of it starting, console shuts off.

Why is it doing this??? I simply cannot understand why. Sony has no idea why and no console repair shop is even remotely interested in looking into it.

I would honestly find yourself a nice standalone $20 blu-ray player and enjoy faster controls and save wear and tare off your ps3 disc drive for if you still game. Not worth the headache at this point...

one random idea.. it sounds like those are parts of the disc where it might be trying to pull online data down from studios (like updated trailers, etc) try disabling all that/putting console offline

It's always offline when I watch discs.

I can never understand what causes the problem and it's aggravating.

Looks like your PS3 is going to have a YLOD (Yellow Light of Death) error soon

Not much can be done unless you can get someone to check the capacitors and replace any damaged/leaking ones.

Only other solution is to get a new PS3 (if you need it for games), otherwise just get a standalone Blu-ray player

It takes a while to stabilize then it's fine. No one's willing to check it to see what's exactly wrong.

have u looked on youtube to see if there is anyone in your area who does console repair video's maybe u could contact one of them and see if they would like u send it in to them to look at. i know there is lots of guys in the US and Canada that do that sort of thing not sure about Australia.

the money ud spend fixing it though probably would cost as much as getting another ps3 or just a bluray player. if u go for another ps3 go for a slim over the fat ones as they are more reliable. as others have said though if u don't have to play games on it u are much better off just grabbing any bluray player.

What I find strange is that the console plays some discs and not others. I look after my discs so all are clean and free of scratches yet I go to watch my DVD of "Species: The Awakening" the PS3 won't read it.
Watch a Region Free DVD I bought from Japan, it plays it.
Watch "Harley Quinn Season 1" DVD it plays fine.
