Default 4K UHD re-releases/upgrades

Over the years since blu-rays came into the market, we have had many movies updated for anniversary releases and whatnot. Those sometimes incorporated new updated scans and/or new encodings and sound enhancements (for lack of better terms). Now with 4K UHD, do you think we will see any? There are a lot of 4K UHDs that are a mess. Do you think we will see improvements on previous releases in the future? Examples: Bourne series and T2 (to name a few)

Fingers crossed we get upgrades for at least the following:

Oblivion (DNR'ed)
Terminator 2 (DNR'ed, sharpened, aliasing and colour issues. Missing the extended cuts)
The Bourne Identity (DNR'ed, old transfer)
3:10 To Yuma (DNR'ed)
Jurassic Park 1 & 3 (DNR'ed, old transfers, the first one isn't colour graded correctly)
E.T. (DNR'ed)
Batman (1989) (Missing the original audio mix)
Batman Begins (DNR'ed)
Halloween (1978) (Missing the original audio mix)
The Evil Dead (1981) (Missing the reframed version)
Star Wars Episodes 1-6 (Missing the theatrical cuts, most of the transfers are DNR'ed and in some cases sharpened)

Was there a need for yet another DNR thread?

If you're talking E.T., then you should mention at least 50 more titles that have far worse DNR applied to it.

I really don't understand why E.T. always makes this kind of lists all the time...

The frozen grain is pretty bad on the E.T. UHD.

I imagine new releases being made in the future that are tied to anniversaries, but outside of that I feel like we won't see as many reiterations as previously seen. I don't know if it's the prevalence of streaming nowadays or what, but I just feel like a lot of films are gonna get one UHD release and that be it.

Ahhh... I forgot to mention Grease. That's one of the worst DNR offenders!

Forrest Gump is pretty rough as well.

Grease is a shame. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie is OK and then the rest is mega DNR. It does have the original audio though which is a mega beyond upgrade.

Yeah, it was amazing putting that disc in for the first time and hearing the proper mix again after all these years.

That DNR though... Ouch!

The 4k re-release of The Fifth Element is, in my opinion, miles better than the previous release. I think a lot of the underwhelming releases on 4k have been so due to the source used but releases marred by dnr/filtering and compression artefacts are a real shame.

Are you on about the Studio Canal release?

Dawn of the Dead had 2 mediocre 4K transfers from Italy and France before getting a great 4K transfer from Second Sight (though the Argento Cut still uses an older transfer used in the France 4K).

Oldboy had a German 4K with terrible compression that is getting an Arrow 4K, which will probably come with better compression.

That disc looks gorgeous. No idea what people are talking about.

It looks much better than the Sony disc (which I only kept for the extras).

I'm sure some titles that already had 4K masters from previous blu ray releases with an HDR pass will have rereleases at some point. E.T. might be on the top of that list since I believe they used the same master from the 2012 blu ray and the 40th anniversary is coming up in 2022. Sony might also release new transfers within the decade, especially to it's titles that don't have Dolby Vision yet. Ghostbusters on Blu Ray only took five years to go from a 1080p (DVD?) master in 2009 to a 4K mastered version in 2014.

People would’ve replied in those resting threads but they thought DNR meant Do Not Resuscitate.

I would like to see theatrical cuts included in these releases with extended or director’s cuts this goes for blu-rays as well). The Patriot is one example. Either include both versions or just the original.

Sony Don't do Dolby Vision though, as far as I'm aware they only released one single movie or very few with DV.

As someone I knew used to say, "The chances are slim to none - and slim is out of town."
