Over the years since blu-rays came into the market, we have had many movies updated for anniversary releases and whatnot. Those sometimes incorporated new updated scans and/or new encodings and sound enhancements (for lack of better terms). Now with 4K UHD, do you think we will see any? There are a lot of 4K UHDs that are a mess. Do you think we will see improvements on previous releases in the future? Examples: Bourne series and T2 (to name a few)

![]() I really don't understand why E.T. always makes this kind of lists all the time... |

I imagine new releases being made in the future that are tied to anniversaries, but outside of that I feel like we won't see as many reiterations as previously seen. I don't know if it's the prevalence of streaming nowadays or what, but I just feel like a lot of films are gonna get one UHD release and that be it.

Grease is a shame. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie is OK and then the rest is mega DNR. It does have the original audio though which is a mega beyond upgrade.

The 4k re-release of The Fifth Element is, in my opinion, miles better than the previous release. I think a lot of the underwhelming releases on 4k have been so due to the source used but releases marred by dnr/filtering and compression artefacts are a real shame.

Dawn of the Dead had 2 mediocre 4K transfers from Italy and France before getting a great 4K transfer from Second Sight (though the Argento Cut still uses an older transfer used in the France 4K).
Oldboy had a German 4K with terrible compression that is getting an Arrow 4K, which will probably come with better compression. Last edited by Streetlight; 01-18-2021 at 01:49 AM. |

I'm sure some titles that already had 4K masters from previous blu ray releases with an HDR pass will have rereleases at some point. E.T. might be on the top of that list since I believe they used the same master from the 2012 blu ray and the 40th anniversary is coming up in 2022. Sony might also release new transfers within the decade, especially to it's titles that don't have Dolby Vision yet. Ghostbusters on Blu Ray only took five years to go from a 1080p (DVD?) master in 2009 to a 4K mastered version in 2014.
