Default A Blade In The Dark 4K UHD (1983) coming from Vinegar Syndrome

Quote:
Bruno, an up and coming film composer, has been hired to write the score to a new horror movie. The film’s director, Sandra, suggests that he move into a spooky and secluded villa, so as to get extra creative inspiration. However, life begins to imitate art as a vicious killer starts bumping off anyone and everyone who happens to pay Bruno a visit. As each death leaves more clues, while opening up more possibilities as to potential suspects, Bruno begins to believe that the film he’s been hired to work on may itself be the key to unlocking the mystery...

The first major international hit for director Lamberto Bava (Macabre), A BLADE IN THE DARK was initially conceived as a TV mini-series but quickly deemed far too violent for the airwaves by Italian censors, and was instead re-edited for theatrical release. A classically structured giallo, albeit one taking stylistic cues from the then booming slasher craze, complete with an array of elaborate and bloody murders, the film features Andrea Occhipinti (Conquest), Fabiola Toledo (Caligula: The Untold Story), and actor turned director, Michele Soavi (Stage Fright). Co-scripted by prolific Italian genre writer Dardano Sacchetti (The Bronx Warriors) and featuring a pulsing score by the legendary Guido and Maurizio De Angelis (Ironmaster), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the world UHD debut of this 80s giallo classic, newly restored in 4K from its original camera negative and presented for the first time on disc in both its extended TV version as well as its long unavailable international theatrical cut, all supplemented by a host of new and archival bonus materials!

directed by: Lamberto Bava
starring: Andrea Occhipinti, Anny Papa, Fabiola Toledo, Michele Soavi, Valeria Cavalli, Stanko Molnar, Lara Lamberti
1983 / 109 min / 1.66:1 / English & Italian Mono with translated English subtitles

Region coding: ALL

The more Bava (Lamberto or Mario) on 4K the better!

Been waiting a long time for this one.
Finally I can get rid of the terrible blu-ray release.

This is the release I've been waiting on... I was thrilled to see this get announced. I wish I could've ordered it now, but I guess one can't until the May sale. Don't hesitate to buy this if you think of yourself as even the slightest of Giallo fans.

Vinegar Syndrome would be better for me. It's kind of funny that 88 Films decided to announce it today. Competition))))

Yeah, wasn't 88 Films just recently complaining about Severin giving a heads up they were also releasing something they were? I will go VinSyn here. Just wish they kept the nudity off the slip. But, I'll learn to live with it.

I find it highly unlikely that 2 different scans have been done for this movie. But maybe I am wrong?

4K? Didn't hesitate on this one.

Even the streaming versions of this domestically are SD (at least when I revisited it a month or two back).

I have to admit… scared the shit out of me when it said “Sold Out,” but a quick reload of the page corrected that error.

Wasn't it 88 Films that Bill used to complain about (well, one of many) - he'd license a film and foot the cost for a restoration, then 88 Films would see that and swoop in, license the film, and get the additional benefit of a restoration for free. If not them, it was one of the overseas labels.

It's very possible to have one scan done and then 88 Films fails to color correct it and/or messes up the audio (again, as happened on 88 Films' recent two 4K releases).
