Disney Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)

Quote:
Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 opens this May, but Disney are so confident it’ll be a success that they’ve hired Shrek scribe Terry Rossio to begin writing a fifth film.

Rossio has penned all four of the Pirates films thus far with writing partner Ted Elliot, though it appears that he’ll be walking the plank alone with the as-yet-untitled Pirates 5.

Meanwhile, the studio are also hoping to lure back On Stranger Tides helmer Rob Marshall for the fifth outing, alongside (naturally) Johnny Depp.

Depp himself has already shown interest in a fifth film, telling EW: "As long as we can put all the puzzle pieces together, I would most definitely consider it."

Still, is this Disney feeling confident after having seen Jack’s fourth adventure? Or are they panicking now that that they no longer have a sure-fire franchise on the books? (Tron: Legacy didn’t make as much money as they’d hoped, while they let go of Narnia’s last outing.)

We’ll find out when Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens in 3D on 20 May.

Source: Deadline
I'm interested in 4. Hated 2 and 3. So, we'll see.

I thought they said they were going to do 5&6 like they did 2&3. What do I know. I am sure they will do well in theaters and 3D!!

Default Fifth ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Script Already in Progress

Quote:
Those of you who get cranky every time you remember Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides exists may want to avert your eyes, because the next sentence will only upset you further. We already knew that Disney was planning for the fifth and sixth installments of the series, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer has announced that the screenplay is already in progress. Read more after the jump.

Little is known about the script at this point, but Bruckheimer told USA Today (via Cinematical) that On Stranger Tides and the as-yet-untitled fifth film will be standalone stories following Johnny Depp‘s weird, wonderful Captain Jack Sparrow through various adventures — unlike the first three films, which comprised a trilogy. At this point, I can barely even remember the plotlines for Dead Man’s Chest (a.k.a. Pirates of the Caribbean 2) or At World’s End (3), so I can’t say I’ll miss the continuity aspect much.

Says Bruckheimer:

Quote:
[T]he audience told us what they loved about it is that it was fresh, it was new, it was a whole new story… So that will carry over into the next one, too, to give it something fresh and different. As long as the audience embraces this one, we’ll certainly try to make another one. It’s really up to Johnny. He loves the character.

I know many won't be, but I'm quite excited by a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, because I think it's a franchise with a lot of potential.

With a sixth film planned as well it does make you think that PotC could go on to become a big long-running series, possibly along the lines of James Bond.

Pirates 5 Script is Done

Quote:
Signed, sealed, and delivered: The fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean script has been cast off to seas and washed ashore at Disney's HQ, clearing the way for the company to begin the initial preparations. The only problem, of course, is that the leading man for the series, Johnny Depp, is not as eager as screenwriter Terry Rossio, as he is looking to take a short break between the series' fourth and fifth movies.

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on the latest developments, citing quotes from Captain Jack Sparrow himself. "It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012,'" says Depp on resuming the role of Sparrow. "We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is all-aboard for the fifth installment of the incredibly lucrative franchise, and Disney is in talks to bring back the second director of the series, Rob Marshall, who directed the fourth installment, On Stranger Tides, due out in theaters later this month. Nothing is official on the directorial front, but it certainly seems promising.

Yeah they must have really had a good clear picture of where they want to take the 5th and 6th films.

I hate to say this... but its best if sequels are delayed for 1-4 years to make people want to watch it even more

Whats more appealing? Having a movie that churns out every year like saw... or a series that comes out every 2-3 years?

Dont get my wrong... I'd love to see a 5th pirates so quickly

It sounds like the 5th film won't be shooting anytime soon and they just have the script done for when they do as Depp has Dark Shadows filming soon and The Lone Ranger so I don't think he will start Pirates 5 until after Lone Ranger.

Yeah, Depp already says he's going to do a movie or two between this and the next Pirates. I doubt we see the next movie until 2013 at the very earliest.

Yeah which is good as I'm really looking forward to the Lone Ranger and I don't have to worry about waiting to long for Pirates 5 as they will make it and not just forget about it.

Yeah, Disney will never forget about the Pirates series. It'll be interesting to see where the fifth movie goes...

Yeah the 5th Pirates movie is going to be interesting as it's hard to imagine where it will go and how it could connect to a 6th film. But then again I didn't know where a 4th could go and now it seems natural and something obvious and not out of left field.

I'm with Depp, hold off a bit. There's no reason to rush it. Have it out for Summer 2013.

I'm sure the script will be tweaked quite a bit before production.

As for connections, they've said the future films (4, 5 and presumably 6) will be stand alone adventures.

Yeah, I want them to hold off and wait as well. Let Depp do two other movies between the Pirates movie, so the character doesn't wear him out. It would be better that way. Hoping for the best with the fifth.

They have a guy who loves the character and has gone on record saying he would love to keep playing him....don't push it Disney, be smart

Exactly. Don't want them to turn Depp against the character.

Johnny Depp 'not sure about joining Pirates 5'

Quote:
Johnny Depp has revealed that he is uncertain that he will make a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Depp spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the future of the popular franchise, stating that he is not sure if he will return to the series after Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens later this month.

"Boils down to story, script and filmmaker," said Depp of the decision to make a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. "It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012'. We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."

The actor recently revealed that he was injured on the set of the latest film, declaring that he was forced to work through the injury in order to meet the hectic shooting schedule.

At a conference held on Thursday for the upcoming film, Depp jokingly suggested an idea for the next two Pirates movies, according to USA Today.

"I have a clever idea for Pirates 5 and 6," he said. "We're actually going to shoot it on the [Disneyland] ride. Just us going around in a circle. Just close-ups on everyone."

Penelope Cruz, who stars in the fourth film opposite Depp, recently revealed that the actor was constantly making her laugh on the set.
I have a feeling after some time off he will want to make a 5th movie if they get the director back and the scripts good.
