Default Family

Family, the groundbreaking and long-forgotten television drama created by Jay Presson Allen (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Cabaret) and produced by Mike Nichols (The Graduate, Carnal Knowledge), Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg (Charlie's Angels) starring Sada Thompson, James Broderick, Gary Frank, Kristy McNichol and Meredith Baxter is finally available to stream on Tubi. All 86 episodes are available.

They look remastered, although they are not in their original aspect ratio and have been reframed to fill widescreen TVs.

Sony released the first two seasons on DVD way back in 2009, and that edition is now out of print. They abandoned future releases of the remaining 3 seasons and no other label (Shout Factory or Mill Creek) bothered to license the series.

I've been watching the show in broadcast order and I have to say it is one of the best written, best-acted dramas ever done for television. Some of the episodes border on getting a little soapy but for the most part, it's a top-notch show with some really impressive guest stars.

It's about time this show was saved from languishing in the vaults. It deserves to be seen for future generations to discover.

Thanks for the heads-up, KeithPartridge. I watched Family when it originally aired, and I bought the first two seasons on DVD, but it might be fun to watch the entire series again.
