No, but a 4K SDR "remaster" that will definitely be an upscale, because the movie was only shot in 2k.

Incorrect. Sharknado was shot in 4K, but only ever aired or released on disc on HD. So the remaster required a lot of the VFX to be rebuilt or uprezzed, but the original live footage was 4K.

Red One MX camera used, says Imdb.

Ten years ago there were almost no post productions that used a full 4k workflow. So even if 4k cameras were used for filming, all editing, color grading, visual effects etc. was done in 2k and the finished film has only ever existed in 2k.

I get that the film was, by Asylum standards, a smash. Still, the idea that they'd spend money on a 4K rebuild just doesn't seem possible, especially considering how the first film didn't exactly look like a Martin Scorsese joint in the first place.

Yup, they can remaster it in 8K if they want, its still gonna look like a YouTube video. No matter how many Ks they throw at it, it's not gonna improve the flat lighting, unimaginative shot composition/framing, and amateurish camera angles and movement.

You can make the argument that the movie's cheap aesthetics are part of its charm, in which case why "remaster" it?

Best chance for a visual improvement, is if the UHD has a strong encode and loses a lot of banding artifacts and compression woes of the BD (assuming they are not baked into the source).
