Default Fascinating Data: Not all HD is HD

Hey folks,

Sorry if this has been posted, but the guys over at DVDfile.com have a truly fascinating article about the greatly varied differences in what exactly is HD.

There has been a lot of discussion here about VOD and the massive compression that occurs, now with the information in this article it makes very clear who and what is being delivered.

Check it out!

intriguing but I think the real facts behind this article is the bit rate between downloadable HD and Blu.

Downloadable HD media's Bit rate is trumped by BD!

To make BR look even better in the chart, they could have made a special note that the bitrates provided in the table are assuming lossy "mp3" level soundtrack. If there is to be a lossless "premium" quality soundtrack (which should be part of the premium HD experience), BR stays at 40 Mb/s and all other figures would effectively drop by approx. 5 Mb/s. Naturally, lossless audio is not available in some of the other examples on the table, at all, but it is worthwhile to keep apples to apples where possible.

The article really does get to the heart of the issue, though. It is an excellent PR rebuttal to address all of the digital download buzz going on since CES.

Plain and simple BD has the best PQ.

The reality? Most people dont care, which is why VOD, and downloads will slowly but surely enter the market in force. Not now, not in 5 years, but wait for it.

Someone needs to do some fact-checking because DirecTV has been 1920 x 1080 since the D10 satellite went active.
