United Kingdom Fabulous Films

Noticed there isn't a Fabulous Films thread, so reluctantly will start one.

Just noticed there are listings on Amazon for a few new titles from them, including Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and Arlington Road. Not sure whether they'll look any good, but glad we're finally getting them on Blu-ray (particularly the former, possibly my favourite Steve Martin film).

Good titles, I'd buy both if good prices, extras and reviews.

After buying a couple of Fabulous films I don't imagine DMDWP will be any better then the Italian version.

The master for that one is pretty much guaranteed to be the same one Sony used in the US, so that one's pretty much guaranteed to look quite good.

Nope, but how does it look? I've not seen any screencaps of that disc anywhere.

A shame Arrow or Second Sight didn't want to pick this up and do a bit of a cleanup, and add some extras. Seems there's an aversion to comedies from both labels unless there's an element of horror or exploitation (unless it's a successful cult hit with mass appeal).

It looks fine to me - considering how it was shot. The worst part is audio is DD2.0 only (same as the dvd) and no English subs. I imagine Fabulous will get dtsHD 2.0 but still have no subs.

btw Did you spot any other new releases? I couldn't find any.

Yeah, Bird on a Wire, K-9 and K-911.

They're also doing a DVD of Slaughterhouse-Five, so I imagine that might get a Blu-ray soon as well. I'd be up for that one.

I've been eyeing up the Japanese Blu-ray of Slaughterhouse-Five (one of my all-time favourite Sci-Fi films), but it's currently £34.28 + shipping, so a UK release would be very welcome.

Just noticed Bird on a Wire and K-9. Day ones right there. Just imported Housesitter, so with BOAW I can sack off the double DVD now.

Hope after K-9 they look at a couple of other Belushi films, Taking Care of Business and Mr. Destiny.....Maybe The Principle is a bit too much to hope for?

Taking Care Of Business (aka Filofax) and Mr. Destiny are both Disney, so unlikely unless a deal can be struck. I think The Principle is Sony, so maybe more Indicator territory.

Yeah, but not with this transfer. It looks terrible, and I kind of regret buying that. I'm only keeping it because this is one of my favorite films & so is the book. Hope the better, restored edition comes along one day.

Excellent news about K-9 one film that I thought would never see the light of day on Blu Ray.

This is promising...being that they are going the DVD only route, I wonder if the Blu-ray rights were picked up separately by another company?

It's probably just a matter of there not being an HD master available, but remaining hopeful.

This, along with Marat/Sade, is at the top of my wish list for blu upgrades.

Unfortunately film rights don't work like that, at least in the UK they don't. Once a label has licensed a title, it doesn't matter if it's for DVD or Blu-ray, they have the rights to that title on all home video formats.

There is an HD master available as it was released in Japan a few months ago, so we probably just have to wait a while.

Good to know.

I guess I was thinking of instances in the U.S. where sometimes the rights are divided between DVD and Blu (ala Support your Local Sheriff, which was released on DVD by Kino and the Blu by Twilight Time).
