Together they cut classes to go to the zoo, crash parties, put the hustle on some hustlers and dream about getting out of their impoverished, rough neighborhood. But when an innocent joy ride makes them the targets of two vengeful hoods, their already uncertain futures seem even further out of reach. On the heels of the well received and beloved coming of age film classic ,concerning the lives of teenagers as they headed into adulthood, George Lucas' American Graffiti, we have Cooley High. An adaptation of sorts by one Eric Monte, co creator of the popular 1970's CBS sitcom Good Times. Cooley High was, and is, viewed as a black version of American Graffiti.

One of the few movies I went to see 2X when it was in theaters. To bad the soundtrack is all Motown as the movie takes place on Chicago's near North Side in the area where Curtis Mayfield, Jerry Butler and Major Lance to mention a few lived. No Chicago Soul music whatsoever.

Luther Allison is a Chicago Blues artist who was signed to Motown.

He's on the soundtrack. And his song is scene where Cochise pulled the letter out of the toilet.

2015 is framing up to be my favorite year for Bluray first Truck Turner now Cooley High the suspense is killing me words can't express how good this film is.

I'm so excited.

I chalk it up to getting Motown licensing was easier and they were going for a generic common denominator score vs cultural accuracy.

Yes it would be nice to hear the Impressions, but i dont penalize the film for going the route they went.

I always thought this one was a made-for-TV movie. I'm sure I saw it on ABC sometime around 1975 or 1976.

Excellent film! I've wanted this, but it only ever got a FF release on DVD.

About friggin time. I've avoided the DVD release, since I couldn't fathom that this movie wouldn't eventually get a BD release.
