This use to be a great service, but I can't stand it now. It's illegal to charge for broadcast channels, which is why they never did before. Now, they put up a donation thing to get money. Which I mean is okay, it helps them maintain everything that goes into putting the app up and such. However, the donation commercial will break in every 15 minutes while watching a show, then kick you back to the guide. They say once you donate you no longer see the commercial, but that doesn't seem to be true, at least not at the moment. If they can get that fixed, it would be perfect.

And if you "reset" the service each time a commercial is shown, you can usually watch a program uninterrupted. Because Locast is a not-for-profit enterprise, they are permitted to rebroadcast OTA signals without obtaining permission from the broadcaster. The advantage to Locast if you are in one of their areas is they broadcast many diginets as well as primary channels. Stations such as Me TV, Buzzr, Decades, Cozi, Grit and others that do not have apps associated for streaming purposes. Even though the FCC regulations permit rebroadcasting by non-profits, donations made by AT&T, Dish and others angered the networks and they have a lawsuit against Locast at this time. Despite that, Locast continues and have expanded in additional markets and will continue to do so. |
