Default More From Best Buy

my brothers friend, both have blu, works at bby. my brother was up there last night and saw quite a few opened hd dvd players. he told me this is basically the conversation that took place.

bro: dang! are all those from after WB went blu.

bby yeah, its a big pain in the ass, management isnt happy about it.

bro dont you feel bad selling those to people.

bby no, mgt. has told us to sell them as upconvert players, that way people wont return them, plus they get free movies which helps clear the shelf.

bro well arent they going to realize that its more than an upconvert when you tell them to pick out there free hd dvds.

bby idk, i havnt sold one yet, but if they do, so what? ill tell them its cheaper than a lot of upconverters and a better upconverter, plus it plays hd dvd. if they wanna come back and help us get rid of our movies faster thats cool with us. one day they will come back and see no hd dvds on the shelf, they cant really get mad at us because they didnt want an hd player to begin with. plus, by the time we can get rid of the software they wont be able to dump the player back on us.

Tell your brother not to bust retail employees' balls. They don't need that, they're probably not raking in enough dough to take garbage like that.

Seems like the only thing Toshiba can do also. All their latest ads and the like have been advertising them as upconverters and not HD DVD as much.
Funny.

Funny.
Ive noticed that.
Even they realise the only thing their HDDVD players can compete with are upconverting DVD players.

I'm aware of that, and that fact makes it worse. A "friend" wouldn't ask that question. Ah well, to each their own.

I think you're being a little over sensitive there guy... He was just trying to ask his friend a valid question. I personally would feel bad selling anything HD-DVD to ANYONE... UNLESS they were 100% aware of the current HDM situation.

I understand having to do what the boss tells you. If you really care about the customer you direct them to blu-ray. Now, when you're being paid min. wage and your boss is breathin' down your neck, you do what he says, or tell him to shove it where the sun don't shine!

I call my friends all sorts of bad things, so I guess it depends on what relationship you got with them, but whatever.....

I still hear all the hate out there, and I'm telling you.... I might get a CHEAP HD DVD player, and purchase a hundred or so titles at $5 a piece on HD DVD..... I don't care if they don't support it in the future, I'll be able to play them, they'll be cheap, and I won't have to wait for them to be released on Blu-Ray......

Blu-Ray is better..... I know this.... but don't act like I'm some complete moron for buying HD DVD b/c it's cheap.....

a friend asks questions when he thinks another friend is being immoral where i come from. and yes i do believe selling a dud player to a customer who doesnt know the situation is very immoral.

well i dont think threre is a conflict between the boss and the salesmen. both seem pro blu. last thing a salesmen wants is a po d customer filing a complaint against him, because he sold aplayer that is essentially dead

Yeah, my thought. If a BB salesguy were telling the customers that HD-DVD was going to win the war and Blu was going down, etc.etc. then I would consider the move immoral. If they're sold as up-verters, which they are, then I have no problem.

The BIGGER problem is how this really shows the confusion that reigns in the marketplace. WE know what's going on but the other 98% of the market simply doesn't want to listen to it or doesn't care. Toshiba needs to pull the plug quickly, let this thing die and then bring out the baddest Toshiba Blu-Ray player they can design. Unify the HD market and tackle SD-DVD as the true competitor.

That said, my parents would NEVER understand how better Blu is over SD. They won't see the picture improvements and audio would be mostly lost on them as well. I'm afraid that is going to be the prevalent attitude. DVD versus VHS was a given... the improvements were HUGE and obvious to anyone. DVD versus Blu for the average consumer at Wal-Mart? Hmm....

Sorry "guy", I think this guys bro is douching over his friend whose just trying to do his job. Asking him if he feels bad for trying to sell something is valid? Whatever chief. As far as the "immoral" comment, jump off your soapbox, we're talking dvd players for christs sake.

i dont think you understand these are two friends talking to each other, both knowledable on the war, one works at bby, both hate hd dvd. its no different than if two friends were on this website and one asked if he felt bad selling customers a format that was obsolete. i promise you the friend took no offense.
