interesting choice-- both westerns but completely different movies with
different appeals-- quite frankly I give them both the same rating and like them both a lot-- can't pick one over the other! "we've all got it coming kid.." "you tell him I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!" how can I pick from these classic scenes??!! ![]() |

Tombstone is good, but Unforgiven is IMO the best Western ever made. The guy playing the Scofield Kid kinda suckes, but the rest of the cast is hard to beat--Eastwood, Freeman, Harris and (especially) Hackman. There is plenty of moral ambiguity since there are no real good guys in this movie, so that always adds another facet of interest.

I voted on "Tombstone," at the very least because I'm more familiar with it and I really enjoy its dialogue. I never fully cared for its story, but it is not bad, and the characters are decent.
"Unforgiven," on the other hand, is a little too slow-going for my taste. I can understand that it's deeper and well-filmed, but I find "Tombstone" more entertaining. |

Tombstone is fine, Kilmer was very good. "I'll be your Huckleberry..."
But Unforgiven was the better film. Yes, it's slow. But that movie does more to illustrate true violence than most others off the top of my head. "I've killed most anything that's walked or crawled at one point, and I'm here to kill you, Little Bill." |

This should not even be close, in fact this is like the other thread called G.I. Joe vs Star Trek (right?)
Unforgiven as a film is head and shoulders above Tombstone. In fact Tombstone is not even as good as Wyatt Earp! Tombstone however was "fun". And Doc Holliday was actually played better by Dennis Quaid. Quaid "looked" like he was suffering from TB and literally made himself sick getting down to 135 pounds for the role. Val had some great one liners though but looked like he just had a fever. Last edited by Elvis; 01-11-2010 at 04:32 PM. |

These are both such different films...what a tough choice!
For those who haven't seen both, do so asap! |

2 Great films but Unforgiven was epic (for a Western).
