Default Movies that actually scare you?

For me it has to be about something that could actually happen. Jump scares? Don’t make me laugh, I see them all coming. Gore is slapstick. Examples for me:

The Hitcher - original
Prisoners
War of the Roses

Are there any for you?

Jaws

I have a shark phobia and even though I have seen the film a million times when the shark starts chomping at Quint I start kicking at the floor like I am trying to save my life.

As a horror lover, horror films never scared me. But the first half of the first Insidious creeped me the hell out. Saw it in theatres without seeing the trailer and was very surprised. The ghost boy dancing to the old time music in broad daylight? No thank you.

Sleepaway Camp. Seen the movie when I was 5-years-old and as a grown ass adult I still have trouble watching it by myself (even though I own it on Blu-ray). Anyone who has seen the movie knowns why that movie traumatized me as a child.

The scene where the obese 40 year-old camp cook stands by and makes sexual comments about every young camper?

A lot of users here probably fit that description, well not the camp cook part, so I doubt that’s the issue.

I don't know about "scare" but there are quite a few that disturb me or get under my skin. Here are some of them:

Se7en
Sinister
Surveillance
The Blair Witch Project
It Follows

I honestly can't remember the last time a horror film actually scared me, but I will always remember my first big scare. I was about five or six years old in the 70's, when I caught an early scene from CARNIVAL OF SOULS on TV, in which a floaty ghost head appears in the main character's car window as she's driving. Freaked... me... out. That might've been the initial spark that got me into horror, come to think of it; I wanted to see more and more, as if I were trying inoculate myself against being terrified like that again. I guess it worked.

I almost forgot about that scene, now you're making me starting to realize it. I was really young when I seen this movie, so I didn't think about the creep factor at that time.

Sinister and Redacted.

Candyman scared the shit out of me when I was a kid, but I rewatched it last year and it was all right (very good movie, though).

I watched it for the first time last year and that scene creeped me out more than the ending.

These unsettled me the most, at least on the first viewing or two:

Annihilation
The Exorcist
Hereditary
A Serbian Film

These unsettled me only when I was younger:

House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Invaders From Mars (1986)
Poltergeist

I'd give props to these for being exceptionally uncanny:

Insidious
Sinister
The Thing
(1982)

Dagon freaked me out when I was younger.

The Exorcist might be the only one that, to this day, still gets under my skin.

Ha Insidious did get me time the first time around! Saw it super loud with the right chemical substances on board.
