Default The Final Countdown (1980) (4K remaster) coming from Blue Underground

Around 1:33:00 mark, Bill Lustig mentioned that they are doing a new 4K remastered release.

This will probably be one of those instances where I resolve to stop the madness, because my current Blu-ray of The Final Countdown is perfectly good in its own right.

...and then I end up buying the 4K remaster anyway.

So I'm assuming we can expect this for every one of their older blu ray releases now.

most likely... and I'm not biting. My current Blue Underground titles that I own are just fine.

The only one I would consider buying again is DEAD AND BURIED... and that's only if it looks a lot better

Mayhaps.

I'm probably all in for Zombie, because that's my favorite Fulci film, and because I owe it to the children of the world to own the door splinter scene in the absolute best picture quality available.

I'm not so sure about The Final Countdown or Dead & Buried, though. I love those movies, but they're also the types of films that I only need to revisit once every five to 10 years in order to get my fix.

...and, of course, I'll probably end up springing for the remasters anyway at some point.

They are releasing a new 4k scan of Dead and Buried later this year!

"In the US, yes, Blue Underground still hold the rights to it and are releasing a brand new bluray from a new 4K scan with lots of extras later this year."

I'm having a brain fart is this the movie where after traveling through the time portal, some of the crewmembers are fused into the walls of the ship?

No, that's "The Philadelphia Experiment".
The Final Countdown is about a modern US aircraft carrier caught in a time portal and whisked back to 7 Dec 1941 (Pearl Harbour attack) and the dilemma of deciding whether to intercept the Japanese carriers and thereby avert the US involvement in WW II or...not.
A fun flik but a LOT of talking.

p.s. I LOVE "Fraggle Rock"!!!

Of course it's getting a new remaster, since I bought my copy a few years ago, and it's gone unwatched. Boo!

oh major thanks, I don't think I would have recalled 'The Philadelphia Experiment' - well now I'm curious to see 'The Final Countdown' and trek down a copy of The Philadelphia Experiment on home video to resee.

I happen to be watching this today. I recalled this thread. I than shot an email to blue underground inquiring on the status of the 4K restoration. They got back to me and said that 4K restoration is still planned but they are still working to locate the original negatives.

I I apologized if I get anyone’s hopes up about an official release of this restoration. But it’s nice to know that they’re still trying to get it put together .

Would love to watch this one. Hadn't seen this one since I was in grade school.

My Father was stationed on the Nimitz at the time the movie was filmed and subsequently released. It was a big deal for the crew and their families.

Does anyone have this? it's the new master?

I can't quite remember, but are there any translation subtitles during the film?

The slip sleeve has the back artwork upside down. - or more correctly, my Lenticular is affixed upside down.
