Default Near Dark or The Lost Boys?

Which 1987 vampire film do you prefer?

I have to go with Near Dark on this one, in spite of its suspicious absence of bodybuilding sax players.

It was the 80's! It still works for me primarily as nostalgia, but it is without question pretty ridiculous.

Near Dark was unpleasant to me (especially for it's day!!)-- the bar scene alone was something that once is enough

I prefer LOST BOYS

Most horror fans around my age have a soft spot for The Lost Boys, but it just doesn't do it for me. I think I might have seen it too late in life and separated from the nostalgia it's not all that memorable.

Give me Near Dark any day.

It's just one example but the whole movie was just.... well let's just say "completely lacking in any sense of fun" --

I like my vampire movies atmospheric and stylish like the classic Universal and Hammer films or fun and not to be taken seriously like LOST BOYS and FRIGHT NIGHT--

I don't dig the grim, bloody, and unpleasant styles of NEAR DARK, INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, and the like...

well i mean its supposed to be unpleasant to watch. i guess i was just surprised that someone with The Thing as their avatar was so turned off by it. its not really that bad in terms of horror movies.
plus atmospheric and stylish are 2 adjectives that i think describe Near Dark perfectly.

I agree with that-- as far as the atmospheric and stylish part I guess I should have added the word "classy" to that as well-- this movie was down and dirty, not like the vampire films of yesteryear...

and as for THE THING, I admit that it's ironic that it's one of my favorite movies-- since I do not like downbeat, unpleasant films as a rule of thumb--
but there are some movies that are done so incredibly well that I can overlook that...

The Lost Boys still rocks and so does its soundtrack and so does Kiefer's hair.
So many awesome one liners.

Hmmm, sad to say but I found Near Dark very dull, so Lost Boys wins. I have to say that nostalgia plays a big part in my decision, and maybe I should give Near Dark a second chance...possibly.

I like both but The Lost Boys was a staple in my childhood & I saw it in the theatre when it came out with my dad.

Look, Lost Boys is great and all. Iconic, even. But it's not as good as Near Dark. God, I wish Bigelow would go back to making stuff like Near Dark and Strange Days. Even K-19, I'd take.
