United Kingdom The Painted Bird (Eureka)

I have yet to see this. I’m not sure if I’ll love it or abhor it. The reviews and essays have me at 50/50 odds either way. But if its horrors are driven by humanistic concerns, not exploitative ones, then it may make for the release of the year for me. At a meager 1,000 copies made (of the limited edition with O-ring slipcase and booklet), I had to make the leap.

This looks like a fantastic release and for once I appreciate the slipcase, which features a superior cover. I'm sure Eureka will do this justice. But I'll pass. Back in my 20's I would have looked forward to seeing this film, but now that I'm a little older, and a father to a 5-year old, I couldn't take this much darkness...

I'm not gonna be able to catch this at the cinema so I've preordered the Eureka disc. Been patiently awaiting this one coming out for some time now.

I've already got the Czech Blu Ray which also has the same documentary with English subtitles.

I'm don't know whether to double dip or not

For people who haven't seen the film the best comparison is Come and See.

I too bought that version. Great transfer so I don’t see the need to double dip with this one. If only Eureka had confirmed the release date earlier. Oh well.

I actually watched this as a double bill with the excellent Come And See. Challenging but thoroughly enjoyable.

I'd normally order via Amazon (as we have issues with our post and get stuff sent to lockers)... normally (pre 'the situation') I'd have stuff delivered to the work address as an alternative ... but that's a no-go ATM. Found this listing - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Painted-Bir...A54N571ZEZDC43 - but not up for pre-order.

How does Eureka send titles (RM 2nd and card envelopes?).

Looking forward to watching this.... well, maybe highly anticipating is a better way of putting it

Pretty sure they are similar to HMV.

I ordered a couple of titles from their martial arts sale and they arrived in a card wrap.

If you are after the slip. 1000 only, I wouldn't be hanging around. Chances are they'll be gone by the time it appears on Amazon.

Yup - that was my thinking - hence the check... guess I'll risk it!

the slip suggests this is a standard eureka release, while the actual cover has montage pictures' trade dress.

bit odd

Just received an email to say my copy of this has been dispatched, so should be getting it a few days early by the looks of it...

Just went into the site to check my order - it says:

Order # was placed on 2nd October 2020 and is currently On hold.
Is 'on hold' the way Eureka list pre-orders or is there a problem?

I normally order all my Eureka/MoC from Amazon, so just wondering

Well, my order was placed the 1st, the day before (#34269) so assuming they do them in sequentially?

First place I looked! Mine has a habit of leaving junk and junking Amazon... I guess I order too much stuff from there

Hopefully it's as carldavis suggests and based on order date. I'm just more use to Amazon (who have their own idiosyncrasies, especially with Eureka titles!).

Yes, so am I - suits my mood ATM!

I followed your advice on the direct order - as Amazon didn't have it listed... hopefully I get a shipping note tomorrow morning

I hope so. I'll look like a bit of a knob otherwise

It's a stunning film. Has a couple of homages to 2 or 3 other masterpieces too. Easily in my top 5 of the year.
