I'm considering upgrading an 8-year-old Denon AVR that is occasionally failing to perform the HDMI "handshakes" correctly. My issue is that I don't actually need a lot of the functionality that typical receivers have.
For a start, I never use the receiving capability for radio broadcasts - I only rarely listen to the radio anyway and, when I do, I can use my recorder tuned to the radio station. I use HDMI connections exclusively, so I don't need all the other options for video connectivity. I use my disc players to decode the various audio formats so I don't really need that capability in a receiver. And I don't have speakers in multiple rooms, so I don't need support for multiple "zones". So I really just need the following: Amplifier with power of around 125 - 150 watts/channel Support for a 5.1 speaker system Video routing (at least four HDMI inputs and one HDMI output) Is it possible to get this in a single box without all the other capabilities? If so, any recommendations would be appreciated. (Please bear in mind that I'm in the UK so I might not have easy access to US products.) |
