Default Just Before Dawn (1981) (Original + Extended cuts) coming from Ronin

Quote:
This re-release of Just Before Dawn includes the original uncut version from the internegative and the extended international cut (with new cleanup work).

The new disc features new interviews with cast members Gregg Henry, Jamie Rose, Chris Lemmon and producer David Sheldon. The older extras are carried over to this new disc.

This new edition will include a slipcover with the new artwork by Yannick Bouchard. There is no poster included.

This should be available in early March.

Already have it, a few new interviews with crappy new artwork is an easy pass.

I'll wait for the screen shot comparison but as of now I'm leaning toward a double dip.

The new cast interviews sound interesting but not sure if "new cleanup work" on the extended cut will be enough to entice me to buy again. Why can't they just scan that longer cut? It needs to be properly restored. If they're re-releasing this film yet again then that must be because it's sold very well for them and therefor merits a reappraisal. Maybe I'll wait until next year when it comes time for another reissue.

I don't like those creepy Polar Express people on the cover art of this new release.

Still... I'm going to double-dip. I love this movie.

I actually like the cover. No Floating heads, colorful, hand drawn art. It looks like something I would have seen on a VHS. I'd go so far as to say it's better than most of Scream Factory's and Arrow's artwork they've created as well.

Have had the Shriek Show DVD forever. Never got the original CR release because I was disappointed in a lack of special features, even ported over features. Missed out on the 88 release.

So I am NOT going to rest on my laurels with this one.

I may get this depending on the restoration. I skipped the other release.

So what's in the extended cut? 12 minutes of extra dialogue and scenery?

Usually I would double dip but I'm pretty satisfied with the 88 Film's release.

I like the art, too. People on this forum sure can be harsh.

On the fence about this one. I have re-release fatigue. If I have a lot more bread lying around in the next few months I'll scoop it.

I don't love the art, but if I'm understanding Ronin's Facebook post, it is going to have reversible art with the original poster design on the flipside. I love this movie and will repurchase for the new interviews. I was hoping they'd be able to port over the commentary and other bonus features from the old Shriek Show DVD so I could get rid of it, but given that CR didn't on the last Blu-ray release, I'm guessing it's a rights issue and likely won't be present on the new one either. They filmed this flick about an hour from where I grew up and I've been to the state park where it was filmed. Lots of great swimming holes there and multiple different waterfalls; I've been to the famous waterfall from the waterfall scene as well. Really a cool place.

I went there and got swarmed by bees. Fortunately I'm not allergic or anything, I was just sore from bee stings for a few hours. I think it was the citrus hotel shampoo because they went straight for the scalp, so if anyone ever goes there, don't wear scents!

It was just down the path from the main waterfall from the movie too.

The new art reminds me of the illustrations that were in my Spanish workbooks back in high school.
