I love these two films. It's a shame DeVito has not done more directing. He clearly has a talent for it.

He already did commentaries for both films on laserdisc. I imagine they'll be recycled again (they were on DVD as well).

Debuting during the "holiday'' season is a new director-oriented "Signature'' series of Blu-rays with transfers supervised by the filmmakers who will also provide commentary tracks. First up is Danny DeVito with "War of the Roses'' and "Hoffa.''

Hoffa was never one of my top-tier gotta-have-it wishlist entries but it is definitely in that upper expectations group...one of those films you think 'oh man, that would make a great freaking bd'. This is excellent news.

Word to the wise - if these are BB exclusives and if they're on sale release week anybody on the fence should jump immediately. The first four entries in Fox's signature series (Wall Street, The French Connection, She's the One, The Brothers McMullen) were released around $15 then went up to $25 and have very stubbornly stayed there.

I don't think Hoffa is very good but The War of the Roses is a minor masterpiece. One of my favorites.

Hoffa is very good.

It works as a period piece, it works as (very, very dramatized) biopic, the performances are all very good to excellent and it's drop dead gorgeous.

Very much looking forward to it.

Eh, Jack Nicholson is my favorite actor, but the film needed a better script. At the end of the movie, I really had no sense of what shaped the character of Jimmy Hoffa. I got who he was, but not why he was who he was. I agree, though, that WAR OF THE ROSES is pure excellence.

The War of the Roses is a good movie, but it's hardly a masterpiece. Far from it!

Everyone has their opinions. I love dark comedy and IMO the film is a masterpiece.

Cannot wait for War of the Roses. I hope it is as expansive as the laserdisc box set from back in the day.

War of the Roses pretty much copped out in the end, but I always liked Hoffa, maybe due to the Mamet script. I'm curious to see it again after all these years.
