Sony Pictures Cirque du Soleil Journey of Man 3D Blu-ray (2000) [Region Free]

Given that the film was a IMAX release, thankfully Sony is not pricing the disc like Warner's IMAX 3D blurays (i.e, really expensive for a feature that is essentially under an hour)

it's up for preorder over at Amazon: Cirque Du Soleil: Journey of Man ($14.99)

I'm glad Sony is releasing this and hopefully (fingers crossed) and I assume it's a new remastered edition - the DVD edition is quite frankly hideous and in serious need of a new transfer.

The DVD is listed as 1.33 aspect ratio, where the 3d blu-ray is at 1.78.

It looks like Sony is releasing (via Columbia Tri-Star) a second cheapie Blu-Ray 3D title on the same date: "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2011: The 3D Experience"

I think that deserves it's own thread.

^ I agree

back on topic though - I'm especially glad that Sony is releasing this quickly, so I'll finally see the 3D effects as it was originally filmed as such (the IMAX version I saw was only in 2D)

I saw it in 3d, but I don't remember a whole lot.

Here is a comment I found on amazon:

I saw "Journey of Man" in 3-D and felt I could catch the Banquine flyers in my lap. The movie is the next best thing to a live Cirque du Soleil show, even though nothing compares to the being there. The soundtrack, written by Benoit Jutras, not only proves to be a great background for the film, it is great to listen to even without visuals. I hope this movie is eventually released on DVD.

I'm hoping for the same 3d effects.

It would have to be remastered - the current DVD is honestly a really bad IMAX transfer - the image is hazy and is nowhere as sharp as other IMAX/DVD's - I really really hope this new hidef transfer trumps the DVD edition, which shouldn't be hard in the slightest.

Given that we get the story "explained" through narration, it's probably one of the better Cirque show for first timers (even if Dralion had better acts overall)--
Certainly better than Cirque's own attempt at narrative non-concert movie with "Alegria: the Movie".

Only saw it on DVD, and never got to catch it in IMAX-3D, but it's up there.

(And yes, I liked "Solstrom", thank you...)

I have this and though kinda weird, the 3D is amazing and looks great. For the 3D it's a must watch

wierd is not the word, its very strange, I tried watching this but just could not get into it. I turned off after 10 minutes. I am sure it will be to some ones taste.

MB, as I was watching the begining with it's soft picture and kinda boring underwater excercises I said to myself "oh well." But the story they were trying to get across was ok and later scenes were sharp and very colorful and there are enough good 3D shots to make it worth while. Overall I liked it enough not to sell it. I got "The Hole" today and will watch it this evening.

If you don't have patience for Cirque, it'll make your lil' brain hurt trying to figure out whether there's a "plot".
The usual obvious default answer would be "There isn't a plot, it's a freakin' CIRCUS! "...But in this case, there is a bit of an intended plot, as it's supposed to be allegorically comparing childhood with the history of civilization.

(Although I'm a rabid Cirque fan, and even I had to turn their one gushily overstylized attempt at narrative movie after ten minutes of "Alegria: the Movie" on Netflix--Not by any means to be confused with the okay-but-not-their-best show concert video of the same name.)

Again, if Cirque seems a little hard to parse on first viewing (and I can speak for fans who do want to punch out that dopey Expedia commercial), try looking up Bravo's "Solstrom: the Series" on DVD--
Which highlighted the best of the world-class performance acts from the eight or nine shows by putting them into new one-hour "stories", and the term, of course, is to be used loosely.

I got this and watched it in 3D. I thought it was super cool. Especially the part with the couple on the floating lily pad. I'd def recommend, especially since it's only $13.

The 3D in this movie is beautiful especially watching it on my 100 inch projector screen, but I can see where some would be disappointed in this being this is not a throwing things in your face 3D film it's more about depth. Another thing is that when
watching this movie in active 3D from the opening is very disorienting since the eye view for image is inverted, besides The Walk(2015) this is the only 3D movie I've had to turn on the 3D sync Invert.

There are lots of cheap copies on eBay at the moment. Just bought one for $12.31 shipped. And, thanks to your recommendation, I just bought Worlds Away for fifteen and change. Never heard of either of these before; can’t wait!

I picked up both of the Cirque 3-D releases and I think they’re pretty fabulous. I’d highly recommend both.
