It should be a no-brainer, Seinfeld fans are very loyal and would definitely buy the boxset.
Perhaps they are milking the streaming option first and eventually they'll throw us the delicious bone, to us, physical media dudes. However, it would be definitely presented in 16:9, so never sell the DVDs, even if they announce the Blu-release. |

Sony? I only remember Breaking Bad, Justified and Damages Season 1, I guess there's more, but yeah, the creator of the format at this point I guess would rather license to boutique labels and streaming platforms when it comes down to older stuff.

As for classic TV? Seinfeld is probably all they would ever release. The majority of their classic sitcoms were shot on videotape, so that's pointless for Blu. And even a good number of those were licensed out to Shout for completion on DVD. And the ones that were shot on film... I was having a Newsradio discussion elsewhere today. Apparently it was filmed. But would it make Sony any money on Blu? Probably not, unless Mill Creek licensed it for Blu or something. |

They're basically crops jobs (you lose about 25% of the image). Seinfeld in 16:9 is preferable to listening to Seinfeld episodes on the radio, but 4:3 is the way to go.

I don't think Seinfeld is ever coming out on Blu-ray. We've already hit the peak of the Blu-ray market and the format's already on the decline in terms of revenue.
It appears that both Seinfeld and The Simpsons won't see full Blu-ray releases despite being two of the most popular shows of all time. |

Even though I'm a huge Seinfeld fan & an obvious HD fan as well, I actually don't have a lot of interest in seeing this series on Blu. The PQ on the DVD's out there is fine, and I don't need to see the series any better than the format that we already have available. Hell, the show is a sitcom that mainly takes place on a handful of sets. Plus, I don't know how much better the PQ can get, anyway.

I love Seinfeld and I would absolutely love to have this on blu-ray. It's coming to Netflix next year so I always thought a remaster was in place but since we've heard absolutely 0.0 on them working on that, I don't have my hopes up.
The good thing is is that the show was shot on 35mm and I bet a lot of prints have been stored. Nowadays it doesn't really make sense not to remaster such a successful sitcom. It was done with Friends, which blu-ray looked great, Seinfeld can look great, too. |
