Just a heads up for those who own or are going to purchase the 1953 version of The War of the Worlds. It's now in 4K Dolby Vision and has itunes extras. It looks very good both in sound and picture quality.

So where's the damn disc? Ridiculous that Paramount still hasn't released this on Blu-ray.

Would much, much, rather see a blu-ray or 4K disc release. Word has it that the wires that can be seen have now been removed ! Maybe we will see an announcement of a release in the near future . ![]() |

I would like to see that, I hope that Paramount when it releases this on Blu-ray and hopefully 4k will include both versions. A few years ago I spoke with Ann Robinson and she said it was delayed due to a color issue but that was awhile ago so not sure what the deal is now.

The spokesperson also said there are “no plans” for a 4K or 1080p Bluray release. ![]() |

I bought this in HD quite a while ago on iTunes. I’m pretty sure it was $4.99. I went to watch it again today and saw the “Now available in 4K” announcement. I only have 1080p but it was clear to me that this was a new scan (I stream instead of download) with wires erased. I was beyond happy.

Also available at FandangoNOW in 4K. That may be easier for me, won't have to deal with iTunes compatibility. Wish Paramount would announce it on 4K disc also !

Couldn't wait so I made a 4k UHD HDR10 BD25 it looks staggering for a 65 year old film. Big papa style rules

The fact that this has had a 4k restoration but there are no plans to release it on physical media is the first major sign of the Blu Ray Apocalypse.....

Don’t say that, streaming is shite! I like physical media as I think it’s better quality and they can’t take it away from you.

Well, you’re in the wrong part of this forum to preach that. Anyway, expect more 4K digital only exclusives from Paramount in the coming months.

Not doing it on 4K disc is one thing, but bypassing 1080p disc entirely sucks donkey dick. I watched the DVD a while back and was still enthralled by the film so I guess I'll survive, our best hope now for a higher quality physical release is for an indie to license it or for another theatrical WOTW remake to happen.

Oh well, I’m a physical disc lover what can I say! Don’t like the thought of not physically owning a disc. You look at UV for example,if it wasn’t for Flixster the U.K customers would loose their digital collections. At least with discs they can’t be taken away. iTunes change digital copies all the time. For example Die Hard 2 used to be in 4k HDR. It’s now been busted down to HD. How crap is that if you bought it in 4K HDR. They’ve got you by the short and curlies and can dictate your collection to you.
