United Kingdom Over The Edge (1979) - Arrow Video UK

COVER.jpgOTHER.jpg

OVER THE EDGE (1979) from Arrow Video UK

Released May 31, 2021

BUY at Arrow Films

Quote:
"I ONLY GOT ONE LAW: A KID WHO TELLS ON ANOTHER KID IS A DEAD KID."

Inspired by real-life incidents, Over The Edge is an incendiary ode to teen rebellion that quickly became a Gen X/punk-rock touchstone, and a key influence on filmmakers such as Richard Linklater and musicians like Kurt Cobain (who often cited it as his favourite film).

New Granada is a brand new ‘planned community’, miles from the noise and crime of the big city and a perfect place to raise a family. The only problem is they forgot to build anything for the kids to do. Bored out of their minds and stuck in the middle of nowhere, the teens in the town, led by Carl (Michael Kramer) and Richie (an effortlessly charismatic Matt Dillon in his first film role), do pretty much anything to fill the time, quickly escalating from drugs and sex to petty crime. A rash action by an overzealous local police officer (Harry Northup, Taxi Driver) sets in motion a face-off between the frustrated kids and their clueless parents that will lead to explosive, destructive consequences...

Armed with a classic ‘70s rock soundtrack (including Cheap Trick, Ramones and Van Halen), energetic direction by Jonathan Kaplan (White Line Fever) and an intelligent script by Tim Hunter (River’s Edge) and Charlie Haas (Matinee), Over The Edge still packs a righteously powerful punch today, and makes its worldwide Blu-Ray debut with brand new bonus features interviewing the cast and crew.

I only watched this (finally) for the first time last year and watched the Arrow blu last week. It’s a very good film and works on multiple levels with nobody coming out well. I’m not surprised the studio shat it and buried the film on release. It was released three months after The Warriors after all.

Never seen this, but it looks like a solid classic. Definitely scores well on the various movie sites. Expected more activity here.

I don't get it either. I created this thread in Oct. because I didn't see one. 5 months after it was released. I ordered direct from Arrow, but it was on backorder, so I should finally have it in-hand soon.

I only just noticed this thread, a real shame this movie isn't more well known, i first saw it years ago and it stayed with me, pre-ordered the Arrow BD and watched it a few months ago and it didn't disappoint on a second viewing, a great film and decent disc from Arrow.

I saw it on it's first release, watched it again when it came out on DVD and naturally purchased the Blu Ray which I have watched and it is a film that has aged really well and still have relevance even if some of the dynamics of todays society (such as the internet and so on) compared to 40 years ago have changed.

I remember seeing this as a kid and being thrilled when the DVD came out from Warner. I ordered the Arrow Blu from Zavvi during this recent sale and sold off the DVD. Can't wait to revisit.

John Hughes gets all the press for being the best director of teen films, but he's a rich kid and his films always - always - fall in favor of the rich kids, or the poor kids aspiring and assimilating to the rich kids' lifestyle.

Tim Hunter should be the one remembered as the definitive writer/director of 1980s teen films. Okay, he's a privileged kid as well (dad was in the business) but nonetheless, his work is better.

Exact same thing for me; watched this a while ago and it's stayed with me ever since. Pre-ordered the Arrow BD from their website. Looking forward to watching it again soon

Watched this for the first time a couple weeks ago and really dug it. I ordered the Arrow BD that should be here any day now. Michael Eric Kramer was an inspired casting choice for the lead.

Love this frickin movie. Pre-ordered it from Arrow the day it was put up. Linklater must have really had this in his head when making Dazed & Confused.

I've waited long enough, Amazon has it for $19.99 (now with free shipping)! Had found this was being sold previously on Amazon for about the same asking price--but seller was surcharging $6 for shipping!
