The female members of Mystery Inc. are getting their own origins movie. Warner Bros. Television Group’s digital studio, Blue Ribbon Content, has begun production on Daphne and Velma, a live-action feature-length film focusing on the teenage Scooby-Doo duo.

The pic stars Sarah Jeffrey (Shades of Blue) as the scarf-sporting redhead Daphne Blake and Sarah Gilman (Last Man Standing) as the freckled and bespectacled Velma Dinkley. Hailing from Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions, Daphne and Velma will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment next year.

Here’s the logline: Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright and optimistic Daphne and whip-smart and analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, a tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state.

Daphne and Velma is produced by Blue Ribbon Content and Blondie Girl Productions with Production Services provided by Lifeboat Productions. Ashley Tisdale, Jennifer Tisdale, Amy Kim, Jaime Burke and Suzi Yoonessi serve as producers, with Yoonessi also directing from a script written by Kyle Mack & Caitlin Meares.

Sounds like it's a direct to video title, so makes sense (they do a ton of those for Scooby Doo).

If there were to be another major theatrical Scooby Doo film, I'd like to see them bring James Gunn back, and let him do a pushed to the limits of PG-13 more adult and subversive take as he originally wanted to do.

See, this is the sort of film that will be either insanely horrible and vapid or incredibly wild and crazy in its approach to parody.

Obviously the first is more likely, but the second could create a really fun experience.

I guess we'll just have to see.

It's going to resemble their crappy straight to video movies for sure and it's wishful thinking on your and some others' part to think this will even approach parody territory.
I was actually going to make a comment on how stupid this sounds but I don't have to. The article does a better job of that.
