The Collector Blu-ray
A very unexpected release, but welcome just the same. It was one of the most creepy British films of the 60's.

Image released it on dvd about a year ago. It's curious they didn't release it on blu-ray at the same time, but better late than never.
This is one of their movies licenced from Sony. Until now all their Sony blu-rays were movies of the 80's and 90's. Let's hope this starts a new trend.

Forget the remake, THIS IS THE ONLY COLLECTOR IN MY BOOK!

BOTH Terrence Stamp and Samantha Eggar were great in this film!

here's some interesting trivia: The Collector (1965) was originally a longer film. According to Book "The Unkindest Cuts: The Scissors and the Cinema," William Wyler hated to cut this film and Kenneth More's entire co-starring role. Wyler said: "Some of the finest footage I ever shot wound up on the cutting room floor, including Kenneth's part."

No, it's completely different - just happens to have the same title.

Thankfully.

The Collector (1965) directed by William Wyler is one of best films of the
1960's. I can't even begin to say how excited I am with the bluray release

Damn! I'm on the fence with this one. Not sure if I liked it enough to buy it. Saw it for the first time about three yrs ago. There's no doubt I enjoyed it. I might bite.

EDIT: I just bit.

I always read about how the film was cut somewhat after it's release. I would assume the cut that is being released on Blu is the same cut found on the old SONY Dvd release? (but with a much better transfer)

All of these stories appear to trace back to an out-of-print book entitled The Unkindest Cuts: The Scissors and the Cinema by Doug McClelland. I don't have a copy, but as far as I can tell from the snippets available on Google Books, McClelland doesn't say the cutting occurred post-release, and I haven't been able to find any listing for an alternate version. In any case, the Blu is the same version that's on the DVD. AFAIK, that's the only existing version.

Anyone notice that the reviews are starting to contain more and more venom at some segment of the readers? I thought this was a pretty good review, but it kept taking shots at the "video" vs "film" crowd.

I personally don't care about that, but I'm just getting weary of people backhanding other groups in reviews. Anyone else notice this trend? I also noticed this in the review of The League: The Complete Season One. I amost get the feeling that some of the reviews are preaching or rebuking certain segments of readers.

On the whole though, I'd say the site does a good job of reviews.
