Default Apple TV App on PS5 and 2017 LG TV - Advice if Possible

Hi there,

I'm using the Apple TV App on the PS5 and struggling to know if I have the settings correct to show HDR/Dolby Vision properly. Although the picture quality is very good, the TV does not show either HDR/DV when loading, like it does when I use my 4K Player.

For PS5, I'm playing in Game mode - when I switch to Apple TV, I'm using the 'Cinema' mode. The TV does not give me all the picture mode options that it does when using my 4K player through a different input mode.

Just wondering whether anyone else has a similar set up - and is happy with the results? I appreciate my query probably makes me sound dumb!

TV model is - LG OLED55B7V OLED

Any help appreciated, or pointing me somewhere else to ask!

Thanks, Tony

The PS5 does not output DV or Atmos through AppleTV app. On my Sony TV there is a ‘Display’ button and it shows me if it’s HDR.

I don't think the Apple TV app is available on older LG models.

I would recommend buying a 4k Apple TV box for $200 here. Slightly cheaper at CostCo/Sams.

OR

If your budget allows, get a new OLED TV. They are GREAT. I would post a location or link, but the prices flux so much that it is not worth it. The 77 started around $4k, but is now regularly between $2-3k. When I was helping my brother get a 55 recently, it fell around $1,500. Use Costco/Sams as a baseline regular price, then compare to sales/deals on Slickdeals.

You can watch for Apple TV deals here, just make sure it is the newest model with the silver remote. OLED deals here.

Good luck!!!
