Default Headphone Movie Mashups

I know "Dark Side of the Rainbow" is popular, but does anyone else experiment with soundtrack mashups with any regularity? I love trying out alternate soundtracks on experimental movie box sets and sometimes silents. Obviously more out there, spacey, weird, progressive types of music work best across the board, but I'm sure there are other combos out there. I'm looking for suggestions from other heretics like me.

A recent Mashup that worked for me was "The Bungles of Life":

*note: played some of Disco Volante to make the runtimes match.

Were some of the silent movies supposed to be watched silent? Or was it always expected that there would be separate music playing or performed live?

Music was pretty essential. A live orchestra or pianist was the norm. I'd need to research the evolution of scores and studio involvement; when the studios and artists got more involved and sent cue sheets and such.

Honestly, it's something I'd like to research more now. I own a ton of silents, blind bought most of them actually, but the score was always an afterthought for me. I just play the discs with whatever the default selection is.

Blart Side of the Mall...Wow. I've used that record to calm me down from bad trips in the past, but have never even considered to check k out that pairing. WtF

I recently read on imdb of an odd thing where if you watch Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion with Nine Inch Nails' Downward Spiral playing (start at the first scene after logos/credits, pause during the titles in the middle), it would sync up perfectly. I'm kind of interested to try it out someday.

Nice. I've never seen that movie. Might as well try it the wrong way first!

I bet there's got to be a good "The Fragile" Mashup. With a runtime of 104 minutes I bet a bunch of movies would work. NIN is very cinematic to begin with, everything from the early industrial stuff to the more ambient albums. The albums are sequenced expertly for the most part as well.

You might be in for quite an experience. Have you seen the TV series?

That would be awesome. I wonder how it'd pair with Mad Max: Fury Road.

I just remembered that once I watched this scene from The Kid...

...with this music...

I doubt it'd work for the whole movie, but it did make this scene a lot more intense.

I haven't actually. My anime knowledge is limited.

Not sure about Max. Hm. There's a bunch of somber pieces in that album. I wonder if Starfu<kers and the more aggro songs would sync up well with the action.

I'm curious to check out the "Fragile Psycho." The Gus Van Sant film is 105 minutes. Escape from Tomorrow is another I'd ponder.

I imagine the End of Eva will be confusing without knowledge of the show. Frankly, it's still confusing even after seeing the show. It does exist as an alternate to the show ending, but it's certainly worth a watch.

I figure "Somewhat Damaged" would line up with the intro really well. It is a question of whether the heavy songs sync up with the action scenes and the slower songs match up with the character scenes in-between. Will have to try it out and see.

Psycho is an interesting pick, I could see that working.

I actually synched up Pink Floyd's The Wall with End Of Evangelion from an online suggestion somewhere.

Just play disc 1 after all the studio logos at the beginning. And then Disc 2 when the End Of Evangelion title comes up in the middle.

Skip "Run Like Hell" though, it will wreck it

According to Sifl and Olly, "Fat of the Land" by Prodigy syncs up perfectly with Free Willy 2.

That is one of my favorite albums. Looks like I should rent Free Willy 2 some day and give this a try.
