Default Best Tower Speakers for the buck??? Need help.

Im looking for the best set of 2 front tower speakers for the buck. I have no clue for the price range. I know it will depend on what receiver I have, Im planning on getting the Onkyo 705 or the Pioneer VSX-92TXH (cant decide, maybe you guys can help me out here too). And also are there speaker sets out there(7.1) that comes with a nice good power tower speakers and sub? Thanks!

Go with the Onkyo.

Do you have a Center Channel already? If so, you might want to stick with the same brand of front speakers so as to match the tonal / timber of the center channel.

What brand of Center Channel?

Go gently used and take a look at these. You'll love them.

Cab those speakers are nice, no doubt but i dont think im ready to spend 1800 on them. Maybe a little less than that.

I have the Polk RTi8 and they are really good. They don't make that exact model anymore, but they have equivalant ones. Less than $1000 for the pair. I also have a Polk CS1 center and a basic Kenwood powered subwoofer. With this setup, I don't feel a need for surround sound speakers because the RTi8's do such a good job of filling the room with sound. Can't go wrong there.

Look on Amazon.com also. Check out the speakers. they mostly all have customer ratings and reviews on them too.

Infinity is a good brand. Stay away from Sony speakers period. Personally, I'm not a big Polk fan either, but thats me.

Paradigm Speakers are apparently the best bang for your buck.

I think you should take another look at those used ones on audiogon.com. It's not just a R & L, but also a center.

I have Sony speakers and I love them, but I have heard not many good things about them. For my next home theater I am going with Paradigm studio speakers not sure which model though.

Thumbs up Best bang for a buck towers

I personally worked at a Tweeter store in Palm Desert, CA. and we had tower speakers there from a ton of brands and varying in price from a couple hundred dollars up to 13,000.00 a pair. With that said, I found that the Saphire STIIB towers for around $1000 a pair kicked ass. They have a 1 1/2" soft dome tweeter, a pair of 5" aluminum mids and a built in 10" passive sub. They are brighter and more effiecent (93 db sesitivity) than the comparable priced Polk's. You may have to track them down on line.

Go to www.ascendacoustics.com

Their CMT-340SE minitower speaker is great and has a matching center. You could then go with their CBM-170SEs or their HTM-200SEs for surrounds.

They have stands for the 340s if you need floorstanding.

If you are not dead set on a tower configuration, look at their Sierra 1 speakers. These are my current mains and center. They beat the snot out of any tower or bookshelf speakers I have ever owned or auditioned, but they are pricier than the 340s.

These speakers are known for their accuracy and are great for music as well as home theater.

also check out the different lines of speakers at www.av123.com they have a wide range for all different budgets and a great reputation.

Check these sites out and check out their forums. They have a lot of user reviews and a lot of people willing to answer questions. What really impresses me about these companies is that their owners post on their forums and are happy to talk with you and answer questions.

On recievers, I like Onkyo, Denon, and Pioneer. I am leaning towards one of the new Onkyos to replace my current reciever.

Chris

Here's a price list on Paradigm's and B&Ws. Really depends on your long term budget. These are retail prices, I've been able to get my set up at much less.

IMO, I think it's best to invest as much as you can on having the best 3.1 system you can afford and worry about surrounds/rears later down the road.

Remember to audition with source material that YOU enjoy listening to.

You can't do better than the Definitive Technology BP7000 series tower speakers. They have built-in 15" subwoofers with built-in amplifies of over 1000 watts.

I have their top-of-the-line BP2000 speakers from a few years ago and they are awesome.

You can also look at their Mythos or ProCinema series speakers. They are all highly rated.

Surround speakers make a huge difference with 5.1 sound. Do yourself a favor and pick some up.

As far as the BEST value for a pair of floorstanders....there really is no one pair that can claim that. JBL makes pretty decent floorstanders that are reasonably priced. I have to say Def Tech makes great speakers and are always considered an excellent value based on reviews. I owned a pair of BP8s and loved them. You really can't go wrong with Def Techs. Some of the Klipsch floorstanders in their Reference line are outstanding. The Infinity Beta line is also a great option. They are similar to the Revel Concerta line, although not quite up to Revel standards. I can also personally vouche for B&W. The 600 series is considered by many to be an excellent value. Honestly, I wish I still had my B&Ws....

Sound is so subjective. Your best bet would be to go out and listen.
