United Kingdom Films you have never seen and really should have!

I was having a conversation with a pal the other day and he mentioned Psycho, I told him I have never seen it and he was gobsmacked....

What film have you not seen, but being a film fan, really should have?

Confess your sins

Ooh.. Good post.

French Connection 2. Saw the first, for the first time about 4 years ago. Loved it, kicked myself for not seeing it before. Have FC2 (bought at the same time about 5yrs ago) but still haven't got round to it.

Mean Streets. Love Goodfellas and Casino top of my all time list, owned on all formats VHS, DVD, Blu Ray. I know Mean Streets is of the same genre, has De Niro/Scorsese I should love this. Still sealed from purchase 3yrs ago.

I could add Gone with the Wind and a load of foreign films which if you're a movie fan/lover of film should see etc but these do not interest me.

I've never seen Apocalypse Now, or many Hitchcock movies. I've seen Psycho, Rear Window and North by Northwest but no others. Also, despite being a big fan of animated films, I've never seen The Land Before Time.

I've never seen The Godfather or either of the sequels, I've had them on DVD for ages but I've never got round to sitting down and watching any of them

I'm a big fan of classic Hollywood films, but I've never seen Gone With the Wind. Also I've only seen one Charlie Chaplin film (Modern Times) and he irritated me so much that I haven't watched any others.

Nope, I'm sure there's plenty of others too. I'm overly familiar with the plot points of most of them thanks to numerous parodies and homages, makes me want to not bother half the time.
There's so many obscure gems out there, I'd rather discover those.

I've never watched The Third Man due to the fact that I struggled watching Citizen Kane - according to some the greatest movie ever made, personally I just don't get it.

Can't argue with that, although I recommend you see them anyways

I am slowly making my way round to it! The amount of times I've picked up Jaws and then put it back on the shelf...

Ideally I need to take a couple of weeks off work, and just binge on classic films.

Slightly off-topic but, as a Southamptoner, you should have fixed the Lawrence of Arabia omission when Harbour Lights had it in December. The quality of it was incredible and the big screen really is the only way to watch the film. (You can sort out Casablanca tomorrow as they have it on - I saw it there last year and it's the same 70th anniversary restoration version which looks stunning - and, considering the kerfuffle with WB UK over the UK blu-ray, a great chance to see it over here without importing).

I've never seen Gone with the Wind either, it just doesn't appeal to me but if it ever got a cinematic re-release I might try it as I won't be able to get fidgety and swicth it off. I also need to catch up on a good few Hitchcocks - Rear Window, Strangers on a Train - and I'm not sure why I haven't as I've seen a good few of his and loved them all. Then there are a few such as The Great Escape and Big Trouble in Little China that are sat on the shelf, waiting for me to get around to watching them.

Still, it's nice to know that I still have loads of 'classics' left to watch and discover. I'd rather that be the case - nicer to have too much to watch than too little.

Casablanca is worth seeing if you can tomorrow (though I suspect it's big screen effect won't be as striking as LoA) Last year was the first time I saw it - apart from the quality of the digital print it's a film that deserves every accolade thrown at it. The script is razor sharp.
