USA The Way of the Gun 4K UHD (2000) Lionsgate Limited

Lionsgate will be releasing The Way of the Gun (2000) on 4K through Lionsgate Limited on June 17th. It will include Dolby Vision, and Atmos, and like most of their releases, it will come in a Limited Edition Steelbook. It will also have a cool lenticular slipcover included (see video below)

Quote:
Now in guns-blazing 4K, this neo-Western action-thriller from Oscar® winner* Christopher McQuarrie depicts the fates of petty criminals Parker (Ryan Phillippe) and Longbaugh (Benicio Del Toro). They believe they've hit the jackpot when they kidnap a surrogate mother, Robin (Juliette Lewis), on the brink of delivering a wealthy couple's child. A simple plan, a $15 million payoff...what could go wrong? Everything, it turns out. Robin is carrying the son of a ruthless gangster (Scott Wilson), who dispatches his hit men — and grizzled righthand man (James Caan) — to take out Parker and Longbaugh once and for all.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

4K disc only? Hope LG Limited isn't doing away with the blu combos, especially with what they're charging.

I’ve never seen this…was just reading up, I’m interested. And I think Lionsgate deserves praise for their commitment to this Limited line and its developing aesthetic, and their use of original art from illustrators for these presentations.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why they're not including a Blu-ray disc here as well. We'll have to see if Daybreakers is the same too.

Is this a real 4K done from a new scan or an upscale of a prior 2K scan?

Never heard of this film but the premise sounds interesting. Ryan Phillipe is a tough sell as a kidnapper/criminal but Del Toro works just fine. Badass artwork even if it's a little too similar to Kill Bill.

Have this on dvd, but I think I’ve only seen it once, and that was probably a long time ago now. Wonder if it’ll get a UK release, as I may pick it up then rather than worrying about importing it.

Have seen this a few times and enjoyed it on each occasion. Will be very tempted to buy this release.

Maybe certain aspects of the screenplay are a bit clunky, but overall there's some pretty good stuff; a bit like a distant relative of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or The Getaway.

Phillippe and del Toro are the two names most associated with the film, but for me the real star is James Caan, who is excellent. Perhaps a little bit of his performance from Thief (a career best) carries over into his role here.

Considering it was shot and edited on film, going to be safe to assume this is a new 4K scan.

Long overdue! The Blu-ray PQ is horrendous. I remember seeing this film in theaters and have loved it since.

Oh **** I knew it! When Cliff said in another thread about an early 2000s disc they were about to drop I didn't want to blow his spot up asking questions, but I knew it was possibly this. This should look fooking GREAT, the Blu ray had some serious waxy DNR in spots cause it was an OLD disc. This movie slaps harder than an ex you cheated on.

Now pls Stargate, The Arrival, The Ninth Gate...

It's funny because I remember when this movie was being marketed they ran that opening scene pretty hard, and sadly the movie didn't quite live up to the greatness of that opening scene and the trailer.

The movie was pretty solid I was just expecting an epic masterpiece.

I'll def cop this, some early 2000's indy american cinema special place in my heart.

When I used to work at Blockbuster, we would put this DVD in at the end of each shift, while closing up…just for the opening scene alone

The only time Sarah Silverman wasn't insufferable on camera, her born to play role. Not even trolling she killed it in that scene.
