Default The Jungle Book 2 (Disney)

Jungle Book 2' in the Works With Jon Favreau, Justin Marks (Exclusive)

Quote:
Disney believes that one of the bare necessities for its movie slate is more "Bare Necessities."

Days before the studio opens its live-action take on The Jungle Book, the company is already putting together the pieces for a sequel.

Jon Favreau and Justin Marks, who respectively directed and wrote the movie, are in negotiations to return in their roles for a follow-up. Favreau will also produce.

The movie, which unbelievably was shot entirely on stages in Los Angeles, adapts the Rudyard Kipling-authored stories that tell of Mowgli, the human boy raised by wolves and who befriends various jungle animals. Disney released a animated take of the material in 1967 that also featured such classic songs as "Trust In Me," "I Wanna Be Like You," and "The Bare Necessities."

The latest movie, a live-action/CG hybrid, assembled an impressive voicecast that ranges from Bill Murray and Ben Kingsley as Baloo the bear and Begheera the panther to Scarlet Johansson and Lupita Nyong’o as Kaa the serpent and Raksha the mother wolf. Newcomer Neel Sethi makes his feature debut as Mowgli.

Kipling wrote many a Mowgli tale and Disney plans to dig deep into the source material.

The studio has every reason to be high on the movie. Jungle Book is already generating very strong reviews and currently stands at 100 percent on review aggregating website Rotten Tomatoes.

While it opens April 15 in North America (as well as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, China, Brazil and Mexico), Jungle Book had an strong rollout this past weekend in a handful of markets within Asia and Latin America. It brought in $31.7 million and opened at No. 1 in all territories. India was the standout with a $8.4 million gross, registering the second highest industry opening for a Western release.

Cool - let's see how the first one does and then go from there. From what I've read though, this is going to be really good but I have to see it to believe it. If so, then I'm all for a sequel.

I would really be amused if both Disney and WB put out long-running and parallel Jungle Book franchises, if for no other reason than to confuse people. And if the Asylum pumped out a bunch of their own, it would be even funnier (and this is, of course, an easy one to rip off, given that the characters and story and title are public domain, they wouldn't even have to call it Book of the Jungle or something like that). I can totally picture Eric Roberts, Danny Trejo and Ving Rhames being in such a picture.

I'm totally okay with this, especially after how well it has done critically. My only fear is that it'll take the spot of a different live- fairy tale film. They have a lot of other films on their plate, and I'm really hoping we'll get more news about them soon.

Good God, Disney is on a freaking roll. With Marvel and Star Wars, Pixar, their Animated division and now their live-action films, it's a really good time to be Disney.

Somewhere WB executives, still displeased by BvS numbers/coverage, are furious that they may have to push back their own Jungle Book even further.

Funnily enough, I just blind-bought the animated Jungle Book 2 the other day. Doubt they'll adapt that movie, though.

This is far and away Favreau's best effort.

It's a good thing WB moved their Jungle Book effort back, but in any case it's going to be a bomb compared to this. Not a good film to go up against in name.

I'm not sure if a sequel would be a good idea. They tried it with the animated version and it didn't work.

Yea but it's Disney and they can handle a lot on their plate, i.e. Star Wars and Marvel universe.

They spent so much time wondering if they could, they never stopped to ask if they should.

Imagine if they turned it into a shared universe. Baloo meeting the Mad Hatter in Sleeping Beauty's Castle would be insane.

Although The Jungle Book (the original, literal, book by Kipling) (also The Second Jungle Book) was a collection of stories, not all of which involved Mowgli. That could be interesting to see the otheres though.

I doubt Disney has the balls to make a movie called The Jungle Book without a Mowgli character, though.

Yeah, but this one will be based on more of the original source material, by the folks involved with the first film. The animated version was done by Disney's DTV crew based on an original story without any of the original staff almost 40 years later.

Better than Chef?!

Anyways, great news. There's a lot to explore in this world, and I'd love to see what Favreau continues to do with it. Bring it on!

Oh yeah, that's right! Warner just delayed their Jungle Book. It's gonna be funny to see Disney's Jungle Book sequel getting released possibly the same year.

There's only so many things you can do with a kid being raised in the jungle though.

Default The Jungle Book 2

It looks like we will be getting a sequel sometime in 2021. The first movie was pretty good. It will be interesting to see what they add to the movie that they weren’t able to put in the first film.

There is no pretense of art or imagination in this movie
