Would probably get it regardless, but there’s a chance of forced subtitles as with their limited territory rights to Bridget Jones. Though with Universal doing some international UHDs like Hard Target and Hannibal, maybe a UK one could come from them.

That's likely the case. What's weird is that, after two years, Universal has yet to release their own 4K of Bridget Jones. Maybe they had 0 involvement in the remaster SC put out.

I streamed this once 10 years ago and didn't think much of it, but only later kept hearing it referred to as a classic so maybe I should give it another chance.

What's even stranger is that it isn't out anywhere else other than France, either. I wonder if Universal have it for licensing and no one has bitten, since it's not a genre film.

You would expect them to follow through with Love Actually, though with it being a Christmas film and Universal having it in both the UK and the US.

I’ll need someone to verify this doesn’t have forced subtitles upon release before I import this. Hopefully this means someone is working on a UK or stateside release.

I think we will get a 4K UHD and a Fathom Events screening before the end of the year. There's no way Universal will let the 20th anniversary pass and not do anything to celebrate it.

Surely they won't wait too long. They'd want it out by Christmas especially now that they can cash in on so many people losing access to Freeform which played it as often in December as they do Hocus Pocus in October. And they wouldn't want to wait until next year.

Would be interesting to see which version everybody gets: The UK version with the Girls Aloud song at the Christmas party, or the US one with Kelly Clarkson in it's place.

SC doesn't own any rights outside of France right.
I'm afraid it's going to be next Bridget Jones Diary case - with only French subtitles, that can't be turned off on English track.

This is the final of my favourite Christmas movies to not be released in 4K. I was hoping for a 4K release this year. Hopefully we do get a North American release, although it's getting late for an announcement for before this Christmas.

I could be wrong, but I don't think StudioCanal holds the negatives for Love Actually or Bridget Jones, so I don't think they could have produced their own 4K masters.

StudioCanal, Working Title and Universal have a very complicated relationship.

StudioCanal and Universal jointly financed and distributed Working Title films for years:

https://www.theguardian.com/film/201...udios-millions

I believe Universal owns Working Title, I think they hold the negatives for both films.

Bridget Jones is even more complicated, because Miramax was a partner in it, and they control US rights to the first film.

It's one of those movies that I watch every year, for some reason, because I LOVE parts of it and really HATE other parts of it (due to some problematic stuff). But it's in my rotation. It's not one I hate watch every year, why I do this I have NO clue? That list is Four Christmases, Family Stone and Family Man. I watch those every year as well. But this one is one I will upgrade to 4k, the others, nope. It is a classic and the parts that are good are sweet and feel good candy. And I like most of what Richard Curtis does (if Black Adder ever comes to 4k I'll have a heart attack!!)

Ooooh I'll have to look this up more, I can't see if it's region free or not, and a couple reviews (of older stuff) say it doesn't have the pilot or Goes Forth.

Thanks!!

Quite an amusing film, although that bloke from Walking Dead professing his love to Keira 'get some food down ya neck' Knightley is creepy, full-on stalking weird shit, and not what I'd call particularly romantic.
