Default Underappreciated Directors

Which Directors do you feel never seem to get their due or the full appreciation they deserve despite having very good or solid filmography's.

Martin Campbell is one who has always stood out to me as an underrated/ underappreciated Director.

No Escape
Goldeneye
The Mask of Zorro
Vertical Limit
Casino Royale
Edge of Darkness
The Foreigner

Casino Royale and The Mask of Zorro are absolute classics and there is also that argument for Goldeneye, with the others mentioned all good action movies.

Which other Directors would qualify in this regard?

Julie Taymor is the first filmmaker to do something unique with the medium since Stanley Kubrick. Other than The Lion King, she doesn't get enough credit and is still getting flak for that Spidey musical.

Joachim Trier, who couldn’t sell his soul for a decent box office result & that saddens me deeply. Thelma is still one of the most hypnotically satisfying films I’ve seen in years & no ones even heard of it.

I also think late career Zemeckis and Soderbergh are pretty underappreciated.

Tony Scott. Practically every action film director from the past 30 years has stolen from him.

A belgian filmmaker that I bet very few of you know, Harry Kümel, made the most underrated masterpiece in cinema, Malpertuis, and then les levres rouges, and several very good films

People here worship a complete talentless hack like Jesus franco and yet no one champions a guy like Kümel

John Sayles and Penny Marshall off the top of my head.

I'm going to save every director's name I don't recognize in this thread and explore them.

Glorious Purpose.

On a side note... I'm tired that my assignments are not completed on time. Plus, I'm scoring low grades in my assignments. Does anyone have the perfect solution for me? Anyone?.

Is Danny Boyle considered under appreciated?

I know he’s well known but I don’t think his filmography gets the credit it deserves. He’s so versatile and consistently great!

I love all four of her films. Any shortcomings I can easily blame on the studios not giving her the freedom to make the movie she set out to make or taking them away from her in post.
