Default NEKRomantik (1987) from Cult Epics in 2014

Quote:
Independent U.S. distributors Cult Epics will have a special 35mm screening of German director Jörg Buttgereit's controversial horror film Nekromantik (1987) at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles on October 24th in anticipation of their new transfer of the film, which will be used for a brand new Blu-ray release set to arrive on the U.S. market in 2014.

Director Buttgereit will appear at the October 24th screening of Nekromantik, bringing other short films along with him, during BeyondFest at the Egyptian Theatre, as well as at the Saturday, October 26th screening at the Housecore Horror Film Festival in Austin, TX, to promote a fundraising program for German Angst, an extreme horror film collaboration of director Buttgereit (Nekromantik, Der Todesking) with Andreas Marschall (Tears of Kali, Masks), and Michael Kosakowski (Zero Killed).

In addition to Nekromantik, in 2014 Cult Epics will also bring to Blu-ray Rene Daalder's Hysteria (February), George Barry's Death Bed (March), and Michal Kosakowski's Zero Killed (April).

Not a fan of Nekromantik and I can't see blu doing much for it as it was shot on Super 8. Death Bed's a rather silly B movie, fun depending how drunk you are and Zero Killed is a watch once if that sort of thing appeals. I shall pick up Hysteria simply because of McGoohan, its a mess but a pretty interesting one as it hints at some of the ideas he had for a sequel to The Prisoner

8mm Corpse F*cking Art, soon available in 1080p? I'm in!

I'm seeing the screening on Thursday. I've seen NEKROMANTIK 2, but never got my hands on the original - just seen some "highlights" out of proper context. Should be a real treat.

(The sequel was shot on 16mm, correct?)

You'd think with an awesome name and poster and a pretty intriguing subject, NEKRomantik wouldn't be so terribly boring. Poor attempt at an "art" horror movie.

Still...maybe I'll give it another shot. Even if it is a slimy turd.

I have these. I haven't even watched them yet. I paid like $60 each for them. The first one is signed by Jörg Buttgereit. If anyone here is a big fan I'll sell the signed one because I will just get the BD.

I remember watching the Cinema Snob episode on this one.

I wonder if Cult Epics will do Nightdreams anytime soon. If there's one thing Blu-Ray lacks, it's Cream of Wheat porn...

Cafe Flesh would be a better choice. Anyways, how many 8mm films are on Blu-Ray? And... do they look good?

Anyways, I'm not a big fan of this film but the sequel and Jorg's other films are much much better (Der Todesking and Schramm are particularly great but unless you don't want to see a man hammering a nail into his penis FOR REAL then you should avoid it).

Banned in Australia...

You guys don't realise how lucky you are, sometimes. Being able to watch a film if you want to. Don't ever take that for granted!

You can ask the seller to change the cover and add a terrible sticker to the disc to get it through customs. A friend of mine tried that with Mortal Kombat and success .

Couldn't the seller put in cover art for some random Australian release over the actual artwork and be okay?

I remember that an Australian friend of mine tried importing a DVD copy of Aftermath when it came out in 2006 (Another artsy film about necrophilia, only that this time it was 40 minutes long and SPANISH ) and it never arrived. Afterwards I think they even banned it (The cover is insanely graphic but the film itself is no slouch in terms of gore and unpleasant themes).

You can order it and get it gift wrapped. Works for any banned movie/game/album.

I seriously wonder about the PQ for this realease, because let's be honest, it doesn't look the best on DVD. I also am curious if they are going to throw any extras on to that.

It's a shame I recently tracked down 1 and 2 on dvd.

I feel like a fresh scan of the Super 8 negative should yield some pretty good results and be much better than a DVD, especially since the DVD for this film is pretty damn old.

But I've never seen an HD scan of an 8mm negative, though I'm excited to.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the shorts on the Richard Kern Hardcore collection are sourced from 8mm. Looks much better than anything a DVD could pull out of the material.

While by nature 8mm is a "low-resolution" format, it has a very chunky grain structure which DVDs mpeg2 encoding has a hard time resolving.
