I don't understand why Criterion's digis have such a higher price point in the UK (to the point it's cheaper to import the US version) but they don't in the US.

I like the fact that these Netflix/Criterion films have extra sauce when it comes to packaging - an extra, extra incentive to pick it up on disc rather than stream it.

I can't in my head find a reason for why we in 2020 still use hard coded subs on none Englisg language, i refuse to pay for a movie where they destroy the picture with that kind of stupid things

You are buying a release from the US or UK English speaking countries.
Most consumers there prefer hard coded subs for non English dialogue as they look nicer than player generated ones.

If you’re not English buy your local country release, that will probably use a clean print and your own subtitle language.

I prefer player generated unless it's supposed to be a particular font

Some earlier DVDs have burned in subtitles from a theatrical print! Or with the black behind the text, no dropshadow

Is the UK version a Digipak as well or a transparent keep case?
Also does anyone know if it's region B locked?
Thanks

Going by past releases, the packaging should be identical to the US version.

And from Criterion's website:
Quote:
*There are a select number of Blu-ray releases that are encoded for other regions:
Come and See - regions A/B
The Complete Films of Agnès Varda - regions A/B/C
Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema - regions A/B/C
The Irishman - regions A/B/C
Marriage Story - regions A/B/C
Roma (2018) - regions A/B/C
War and Peace - regions A/B
