according to the article it will be 5x as powerful and be 4k ready, means it will have to have at least 12GB of GDDR5 ram for 4k gaming

2019 is my bet, or 1 year earlier than customary for Sony (7 years between gens typically).
$399 X86 architecture AMD CPU/ GPU 16Gb HBM Ram (unified) 2Tb standard HDD, or possibly 1Tb SSD if prices fell enough 4K Blu Ray Last edited by Elandyll; 12-11-2015 at 11:54 PM. |

Uggggh, I just bought a PS4 today with some Kohl's cash even though I have no interest in the bundled game. But if a new one is out in 2-3 years that's backwards compatible...bc I really only wanted it for FFXV and KH3! But it's probably just for streaming...I don't want a million consoles, lol. I still have my PS2 and PS3!

2018 seems to early as some of Sony's big games haven't even been announced yet. I don't see a GOW game coming out in 2017 and than a year later we get a new system. 2019 at the earliest IMO.
4K should be a no brainier. I just hope it's more of a graphical upgrade than the PS3 to PS4 generation was. Don't get me wrong I think PS4 games look amazing but the jump from PS3 to PS4 wasn't as big as PS2 to PS3. Though we also added HD in between them. Unlike this gen. |

I said that this gen would go back to the old days of 5 to 6 years between consoles, and I hope it does. Last gen went on for way too long, we used to do just fine with the 5 to 6 year gap, someone's even less than that so why should we be sick with out dated tech for the next 8 years.
Keep em cheap and more regular staying in touch with more recent tech seems to be the best way forward. |

Full PS4 backwards compatibility Full transfer of all game saves and PSN digitally purchased content on PS4 to PS5, including wallpaper/themes. 4k compatibility is nice but I expect improved performance at 1080p for those who still don't have 4K. If a game is 30fps at 4K, it should be 60fps at 1080p. Better multimedia support at launch. Lossless audio format support, better app support for things like ESPN, NFL Network, etc. Custom Folder creation in the UI. Better battery life for the controller. External HDD support. Video Chat support. Last edited by Steelmaker; 12-23-2015 at 02:47 PM. |

I still don't believe that next gen consoles will do 4k gaming, at very best we will have 1080p 60fps. These consoles will be out for example in 2018 but will be made of parts from 2016. I don't think they could make an affordable home console that will deliver 4k games by then

Past generation release in North America.
PS1 - Sept 1995 PS2 - Oct 2000 (5 year gap) PS3 - Nov 2006 (6 year gap) PS4 - Nov 2013 (7 year gap) Each generation seems to be lasting a bit longer than the prior one. If that continues the PS5 is more likely in 2020 or later than 2018. |
