United Kingdom Grantchester (detective drama series)

Read yesterday that the new series of detective drama series Grantchester (the sixth) is starting on ITV on Friday 3rd September (source: Geektown).

I think this is another UK series which has had Blu-ray releases in the States, but not in the UK.

United Kingdom Series/Season Seven

I'm not quite sure if I'd already read that ITV had renewed it for another series, so reading this today has surprised me (but in a good way), that a new, seventh series of Grantchester is starting on Friday 11th March.

Source: Geektown.

Were the sixth and seventh series of Grantchester filmed back-to-back with a short break inbetween? Not that I'm complaining (as I like the show), but I'm just surprised by how quick we've got this new series, when the previous, sixth series only aired last autumn.

United Kingdom Grantchester: Series Eight

Haven't seen much news about this, but have read on or off the web (think it was Geektown) in the past fortnight that Grantchester has been renewed for an eighth series.

The earlier series have had Blu-ray releases in the States and Canada, but I've read mixed comments about how the episodes have been presented (it being a UK series released on Blu-ray in North America).

Still no news yet of a UK TV start date for Grantchester's eighth series. However, when I checked EpGuides this week, I discovered that it has been made available in the States (however, it doesn't state on the EpGuides page for the show which TV or streaming channel the show is shown/made available on in the States (a date of Sunday, July 9th is stated).

Haven't been able to look at the news article yet, as Geektown's website (they post news about UK TV start dates for TV shows from various countries) can cause browsers to slow down (similar to the problem which one UK TV Shows thread on this forum used to have with YouTube videos), but apparently a ninth series of the show is already in production (I thought that only an eighth series had been ordered later on last year, and that they hadn't thought beyond an eighth series).

It's on PBS in the US. PBS usually gives us 2 or 3 hours of UK imports on Sunday nights. We got the Endeavour finale on July 2nd. The slot was filled with new Grantchester the following week. We are currently getting Ridley with Adrian Dunbar, then Grantchester, then DI Ray with Parminder Nagra. PBS doesn't interrupt with commercial breaks, but they do edit for content - or sometimes just because they feel like it. They have split the 4 Ridley episodes into 8.

I've read that
[Show spoiler]Tom Brittney will be leaving either during or at the end of season 9 & they've already cast a new vicar.

Thanks for providing some detail about the US TV channel PBS's current Sunday night line-up on Sunday nights in the States (including Grantchester). But if possible, can you put the last sentence of your post (about Grantchester) in spoiler tags please.

Sorry. I wasn't thinking. (I've seen it as a headline in more than one place.)

I'm surprised we're getting the current season before you folks.

No need to apologise. Thanks for putting that part of your previous post in spoiler tags.

Off-topic question, but about another UK detective drama series, Midsomer Murders: how far has US TV (and on streaming channels) got with new episodes of the series, out of interest?

That's tricky.

There's a cable channel called Ovation that is currently cycling through old episodes. They play 2 a day on weekday afternoons. I think they have up to season 15. Other channels have played it in the past, but I don't know if any still do.

There are several free streaming services (such as tubi) that have up to season 21.

Then there are pay subscription streaming services like acorn tv (which I don't have) where you can watch all 23 seasons.

Didn't know a tenth series of Grantchester had been made until during the past week when visiting EpGuides and finding out that a tenth series starts premiering in the States on channel PBS this coming Sunday night (June 15th).
