Anyone have experience moving large collections internationally?

Hey all, not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, so feel free to move it if there's a better spot for it.

I'm looking for advice on moving a large collection (about 400 pieces, mostly single releases but a few boxsets / more bulky things as well) internationally (from America to Japan, specifically). Right now my plan is to remove all of the discs and place them in CD binders that I'll take with me in a suitcase, and then just ship the empty cases, maybe on a cargo ship to save on money depending on how much it all comes out to be.

If anyone else has experience doing this and could offer any better ideas or general advice, I'd love to hear it! Thanks so much.
