Unhappy Playstation 3 Buyer's Help. :(

Hey guys,

I am a very happy with my Xbox 360. I Love it very much! I really love the Xbox Live Marketplace and the Xbox 360 so much, I wanted to buy myself a 120 Gig Hard Drive and I still do. But I am changing my mind on the HD DVD Drive to go Blu Ray or just simply not bothering with High Definition for now.
I made up my mind to go Blu Ray after seeing G4's coverage on the Adult Entertaiment Expo after finding out several Porn Companies are going to offer Pornos on Blu Ray Disc. Also Warner Bros, going Blu Ray Only influenced my decision. This makes me believe for sure that Blu Ray is going to win the Format wars.
So, I am thinking I might just buy a 499 Dollar Playstation 3 instead of the HD DVD Drive since I feel the other Blu Player Prices are an overpriced rip off for what they do. At least right now.

Problem I have now is that just now bought myself a 32 Inch Insignia Brand (Allegedly an LG with a different name on it, that was made for Best Buy) and it's a 720p TV that came with 2 HDMI Ports. Will the Playstation 3 play Blu Ray Movies, play its games and Upconvert DVDs in 720p despite being intended for 1080p TV's?

yes I beleive it will play everything in 720p but with an HDMI connection you will not be disapointed. I had an EDTV and my ps3 upconverted it to 1080i on my TV which is sweet.

Welcome!

The PS3 can output everything from 480 to 1080p. During the initial setup it will ask what output your TV accepts and output it at that setting. It is a great upconverter too for DVDs. You will not be disappointed. I do not believe it only upcon

Yes. the PS3 can play anything at 720p through either componant cables, OR of coarse, HDMI.

Also, if you were stating the porn industry mattering to BD while being serious, id like to clearly state that... i dont think anybody cares about porn on BD. Its simply the best format in general.

Also, the PS3 cant do DTS-MA at the moment, unlike alot of the so called "Rip-off" blu-ray players. I personally have a PS3, and am STRONGLY considering buying myself a BD player now. just for the DTS-MA . (Even though its been announced to be released in a firmware update)

Sorry if i sounded rude... im tired.

If you don't care about backwards compatibility with PS2 games, you might want to check out the 40-gig PS3. It's only $399. You can easily upgrade the hard disk later if you find you need more space.

Also it is important to note that upgrading the HD will not void the warranty. If you do a google search you will find the step by step instructions.

The 40gig PS3 is not a problem... it's 399$.

If there one thing that is overpriced right now is the Xbox360 and it's Addon (Drive and HDD). They should cut 360 price by 100$ of each model at MINIMAL to be at least a little 'Like' Sony, price wise..

if you dont care about backwards compatibility with PS2 games, then you should get the 40GB PS3...and you can install your own hard drive with more storage if needed. Its easy.

You can't go wrong with the PS3. For what it can do, it's actually a lot of bang for your buck. It can do everything that a stand-alone can do and then some. It can spit out 720p so no worries.

Oh thats a relief that it works ok, they made it sound like it wouldn't work well.

I will seriously consider the 399 Dollar Playstation 3 before buying any Playstation 3. .

Anyways, I strongly believe it's a safe bet going Blu Ray format.

Yes, I found out recently that Blu-Ray now has around 91% of the market share to HD DVD having around 9% on of my podcasts made by people with reliable sources of information. I think I found out on the Morgan Webb Podcast? Webbalert? or one of the Daily feeds from G4 hosted by either Kristen Holt, Joel Groudin or Layla Kaleigh. For what this is worth anyways to anybody here.

It tends to run more quiet and cooler than the previous models. WHo knows what'll come out next. My family has two of them... they are probably the best for playing blu-discs... fast loading and all... I love it.

Do a quick search.... if you live near a Sony-Style Store, you can get an Additional $100 off for signing up for their Sony-Card.... no annual fees, and when you get the first bill, just pay it, and cut up the card..... I got a 40gb for $299 YEAAAHHHHHH BOOOOYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy yourself the PS3, and don't look back. It's the best home entertainment console/Blu-ray player out there. Seriously, it's one of the very few devices I marvel at, every time I turn it on!

I would get the PS3...if you are a big gamer you should opt for the bigger drive...Blu Ray has won(my opinion) the format war so buying the 360 addon would be a waste....you will be buying a bigger tv so learn all you can about 1080p, hd cables, calibration, and be active in the forum so when you do purchase you get everything you need.....good luck

This is the BEST reason for adopting Blu-ray I have ever heard. Kudos to you, man. Good luck with that.

completely off-topic and totally thread jacking.. but the porn industry is bigger than warner brothers and any other major motion picture studio out there.. if you were around during the first format wars (VHS vs. Betamax).. you would know that history DOES indeed repeat itself.. it was the porn industry that helped the VHS format win over the betamax.. So yes, although it might seem dirty and perverted to be thinking about blu-ray pornography, it is an important factor.. well, WAS an important factor because we all know that blu-ray has clearly won the battle.. give the porn industry a couple of points for helping.

but you're right.. BD > HD..

with that being said.. i'm going out today to buy my first blu-ray player.. a PS3

TOTALLY wrong on porn... sorry. We have the internet now which allows people unfettered access to pornography. Although people will buy porn, It will be dwarfed by internet usage. It won't affect this like VHS v. Beta Max. it's a totally different dynamic.

Let us know what your setup is and how you plan on enjoying Blu in the future. We're all here to help and for your first batch of threads you start, make sure you have some tough skin!

porn played an important part in the vhs-beta war...because that was the only real way to get porn (aside from going to a theater or picking up a magazine).

Today its free all over the internet...so its not a factor anymore.
