Unhappy Disney only offering bilingual covers for Canadian releases?

So it seems like Disney might be transitioning over to only having Bilingual covers for their Canadian releases. I've noticed on amazon.ca, bestbuy.ca, walmart.ca, and even Disney's own movie club that for Ralph Breaks the Internet and The Little Mermaid that all versions of those films only have an option to buy the bilingual versions. There is no English only option like what we've had in the past. Has anyone else noticed this? I might need to start ordering the Disney films I do buy from time to time off Amazon.com instead now. Thoughts?

Doesn't bother me at all.

As a Canadian (or as a person living in Canada), why is this even a problem?

Maybe because some people don't like cluttered cover art? That's all it is to me, a matter of clutter over cleanliness. I don't care what the second language is, and this is in no way a knock on our Francophone friends. I'll always prefer (and buy) a version that is cleaner and more attractive - and bilingual covers are neither.

I'd rather see one big logo than two tiny logos. Gonna be importing from now on. Just means I might have to wait a bit longer after release day to get my hands on new Disney titles.

Until the actual product is released I'm not sure I'd assume from Stock Photos that Disney/Ca has gone 100% bilingual covers. I'll guess folks will know in another week or two whether all services have swithced, some have, or it's the same as it's always been

From DMC standpoint, it could be a way to finally get the Quebec population eligible. At least my understanding of it is that's at least part of the reason they have been disallowed.

Yeah I'm going to wait until some of these release come out here in Canada first. If they are this weird double logo mess then I'll get from amazon.com instead

Screw Quebec. Their language laws are an embarrassment to any country that claims to respect human rights.

I don't know why they bother at all. Fox seems to get away with just having "(version Francaise incluse)" below the title, like on the recent Bohemian Rhapsody release. I don't know why any studio bothers catering to Quebec's silly and pointless laws any more than that. It doesn't clutter up the cover, and it gets the point across.

If this is the case, I'll be picking up Disney releases in the US, as well. I neither need or want any more French in my life.

Who would want this ugly mess in their collection?

This is going to be such a pain in the ass if true. As someone who avoids bilingual packaging at all costs, it was such a relief to never have to worry about importing Disney releases. Always knew their latest release would have english only packaging and could just go to the store on release day to pick up a copy.

Disney releases are expensive in Canada as is, now it's going to be even more expensive if I have to import because of this.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. Cover art looks waaaay too busy and clustered. Why not just have all English packaging with a little removable sticker that says "Version Francais Incluse"?

Or to make it even better, why not include Spanish, German, Cantonese, Portuguese, Japanese, Hebrew, hieroglyphics, etc etc to make it extremely MULTI-lingual??

And as a side note, I really dislike the sideways title on these Disney releases. Just looks really stupid.

The artwork for Mary Poppins Returns is up on Amazon and Best Buy, and it's bilingual version only.

Looks like we're ****ed.

Unfortunately, it has been pretty much confirmed that they are indeed bilingual only.

I was hoping the same. However, I received my preorder from Disney Movie Club on Thursday and unfortunately it was the bilingual cover.

I'll be importing as well, but I'd recommend that everyone make your displeasure known to Disney. There's a customer service phone number printed on all their discs, and you can use this form as well (make sure you select Canada as your country):

It's really ridiculous, their catering to such a small minority by completely ruining the covert art instead of using stickers or more subtle french labelling like Universal or Fox releases. Hell, Sony 4K releases in Canada don't include any French on the slipcover, and somehow they're still sold up here.

done.

what pisses me off is that disney has been selling media in canada for over 30 years, and during that time they have either forgone french on the cover entirely, or sold a separate bilingual cover. why stop now????!?!!!!?!

Well, don't kid yourselves - it's surely all down to money. Printing two separate covers/slipcovers costs more than printing one bilingual one, and media sales ain't what they used to be. I'd be shocked if it was being implemented as anything other than a cost-saving measure.

It's unfortunate, though. These designs are particularly ugly and not at all how I want something I spend upwards of $30 + plus tax to look. I wish we were able to have choices in all this, but Amazon Canada has sh*t the bed recently with a shocking lack of import options, especially with 4K discs...
