That's out of nowhere. I've had the UK release for years, and I just ordered the Trilogy set from Orbit last week.

The third film coming the same month (Feb. 14th) in the US so they're definitely timing it with that. The first film is with another studio unfortunately so we probably won't see a 4K release of that in the US.

I decided to order the 3-Film 4K Collection Amazon UK a few weeks ago. It's released the same day that the third film hits theaters state side finally. Came out to $23 a piece.

Ah, I was really hoping we would see the 1st one in 4k in the US.

I guess I’ll go ahead and import that 3-movie 4k set from the UK.

Okay.. I'm a bit concerned about this. Does it have the same extras as the 2018 Studiocanal release? Is StudioCanal doing a new disc for the new boxset?

Mainly because the Studiocanal disc is fine, but a bit low on the Mbps and wondering if I'm gonna need to double dip for this one..

First film was updated to 4K UHD on Vudu recently

That's good, hopefully a 4K disc will come out too. I saw the BD's were released by Starz/Anchor Bay so I figured a 4K disc was unlikely, but digitally it's showing Lionsgate which makes a 4K disc more promising.

One definite advantage of this over the StudioCanal release is that the commentary track is on the 4K disc. The StudioCanal one has all of its features on the included region B locked Blu-ray disc.

You're right; however. The 4K trilogy set does list the special features on the 4K disc for Paddington 2 and it's a 4K only set, and it also includes the commentary.

The question is if StudioCanal will make a new encode or stick the same, just add the extras to it. If Warner is making their own disc/encode or using Studiocanal's.

Ugh. I really want the Warner version, but I honestly want all three. Considering all I've bought recently, I'll probably just wait it out for a bit.

Hope 1 and 3 also get a 4K in the US. I don't like box sets (unless they have individual cases) in case they do future sequels, so I'd rather not have the UK set unless I have to, or else I'd get the German release for 1 and UK for 3 lol

WB turning into the MOD version of Universal is really annoying. This had no excuses for not getting a day one release

I think it was just a matter of WB not thinking a 4K would do well as well as Paddington naturally being a bit more popular in the UK since that's where it originates from. A lack of popularity is probably why a lot of these late releases are MOD to begin with.

Since MOD is only sold online, it kind of makes sense for everybody to lean more into MOD with how retailers are either removing or shrinking their physical media. They don't have to make a lot that goes unsold because they don't have to supply stores with copies to stock in store since they're not doing it anyway.

Happy to see a North American release, but I too am ordering the UK Boxset. I actually already the 2nd on 4K disc, but worth it for the other 2. The 2nd movie is a stunner in 4k

before people put their cash down, I see that the new stand alone 4K of Paddington 2 has more extras than the one in the 4k collection, any ideas?

The encode on the SC 4K from 2018 is was so small it only took about 35gb on the disc. So if they're going to port the extras for the Trilogy release, it should still comfortably be a BD66, even with an added German Atmos track.

WB on the other had are using a BD100 for this, so I imagine it will be their own encode, with a much higher bitrate to justify the triple-layer.
