Default Umbrella/Sony issues

Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread about the issues some are having with playing Umbrella discs in some region modded Sony players and PS4s. These problems have been posted in various threads so I thought it might be a good idea to post them all in one place.

The main problem that's been reported on various Sony blu ray players (including the BDP-S1500, BDP-S3500 and BDP-S3700) is that the discs are locking up in the players when you press Stop or Eject is the BDP-S1500. The titles that've been reported with this problem with so far are...

THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE
FAIR GAME
NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD
SILVER BULLET
DEATH WISH IV: THE CRACKDOWN/DEATH WISH V: FACE OF DEATH
DAY OF THE DEAD: ULTIMATE EDITION

HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES has a menu that was incorrectly authored and won't display correctly on Sony, Oppo and Laser players. Umbrella advised me in 2016 that this would be fixed.

Update 12/04/19: HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES has finally been fixed for the 2 disc release that pairs it with THE DEVIL'S REJECTS.

Please post any additions and also PS4 playback issues here.

I’m watching Silver Bullet now and I am seeing that weird corduroy-like, vertical lines effect too (I hadn’t known about it beforehand either, so when the film started playing and I saw the picture quality, I came here to see if anyone else had an issue).

It’s actually pretty bad and extremely distracting to the point where I don’t know if I can continue watching this. I was so excited for this release.

I’m playing the disc in a Sony UHP-H1 on a 55” Samsung 4K TV.

That's interesting, thank you. It's the next model up from the S1500 and I thought that might have had issues as well.

There's a new firmware update for the S1500/S3500 dated 22/02/2018.

Unfortunately it doesn't fix the issue I was having.

"Dark Age", "Silver Bullet" and "Fair Game" run at an odd frame rate on PS4.

The user simonsherry is reporting this with Umbrella.

The rest of the Umbrella titles that I have, about 10 more, play fine.

Just tried the problematic titles I have in a friends region modded BDP-s3500 and the same thing happens...press play, eject or return to Main Menu and the player locks up. No such problems using the region switchable Laser BD-3000.

For me and some other user the problem is not the "play, eject or return" thing.

Itīs the odd frame rate when viewing the titles on a PS4.

Hopefully all these issues will be sorted out soon. It doesn't happen with any other companies releases. It's got me baffled.

Yeah, I hope so as I love this company. But it is taking longer than expected for Sony to release a firmware to fix this.

Sony may not be interested in doing it to fix an issue that's only happening on a handful of discs. My gut feeling is that they'll blame it on the players being region modified. There's definitely an issue with the authoring/production of the discs themselves.

First problem I noticed was in 2016 with the menu of HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES which wouldn't display correctly on my Sony player, another users Oppo player and also Laser players. They were able to replicate the issue at their end and stated corrected discs would be made available after next repressing (which hasn't occurred yet). I have no idea if they've tried these discs on the players mentioned as having issues.

They have to fix it because this only happens on Sony hardware.

And the the issues doesnīt only happens on modified players. There are several reports on this happening on unmodified players.

I have a normal PS4 and have issues... Sony released a firmware update today but I havenīt tried it yet.

The lack of official news is very strange.

Sorry to have to resurrect this thread but it's been reported in the DEATH WISH 4 & 5 thread that this disc is freezing up in Sony modded players like other titles mentioned above.

I'd be very excited for Umbrella's imminent Dagon blu-ray were it not for this issue. I use a PS4 so odds are that I would encounter problems. Instead of expecting Sony to fix the issue via firmware updates, why don't Umbrella simply author their latest releases in the same manner as their older titles? I'll certainly be interested to hear confirmation as to whether or not, Dagon also has problems. btw Would have been a day one purchase if Umbrella weren't consistently messing up.

Problem is that I can't see Umbrella re-authoring older releases that some of us have had issues with (still waiting on HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES which has a faulty menu...been waiting since October 2016). And I do hope that Sony act on the problem, but they can always blame it on region modded players that were changed by a third party. In the meantime, I'm using a Laser BD3000 that's region free and plays everything without any issues. Hopefully I'll be able to use my Sony player again, but no point at the moment when Umbrella discs keep freezing up in it.

Re-authoring prior releases might indeed be a big ask. But what I don't get, is how the latest Death Wish blu-ray has exactly the same issues, considering that Umbrella have been made well aware of the problem. Death Wish 4/5 should have been authored in exactly the same way as say, a disc like Death Wish 2/3 (which played fine in all players).
