Default Mrs. Doubtfire 2 - Robin Williams and Chris Columbus Returning for Sequel

Quote:
Today in 1993: A 'Mrs. Doubtfire' sequel is in the works with Robin Williams

"Mrs. Doubtfire" has risen from the ashes of the 1990s.

A belated followup to the two decade-old gender-bending comedy is in development with Robin Williams and original director Chris Columbus, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A sequel was previously in development back in 2001, though the project fizzled before it could make it to the screen.

"Mrs. Doubtfire" stars Williams as struggling voice actor and recent divorcee Daniel Hillard, who poses as a Scottish nanny in order to be closer to his young children. The film was a monster box-office success on release with a gross of more than $440 million worldwide, and additionally won two Golden Globes (Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Actor - Musical or Comedy) and an Oscar for Best Makeup.

Williams currently stars on the CBS sitcom "The Crazy Ones" and has the feature "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn" slated for release on May 23. Other upcoming films for the actor include "A Friggin' Christmas Miracle" opposite Lauren Graham and the Ben Stiller comedy threequel "Night at the Museum 3."

Mrs. Doubtfire 2, the most anticipated sequel of all time. Any time someone asks, "what movie do you most want to see get a sequel?" I always see "Mrs. Doubtfire" top lists.

Not really.

Don't get me wrong, I like the original as much as anyone else, it was a staple of my childhood. But hasn't this shipped sailed at this point?

Williams' character won't need the old lady make up this time, just the wig.

(I do like Robin Williams).

I am down for this.
Rewatched the original a few nights ago and it really holds up.

If the plot involves him having to fool his grandchildren that may be pushing it though.

Apparently Williams could use the money though after his expensive divorces.

I'm sorry... did I miss this news a couple weeks back? Surely this is a leftover April Fool's article.

Talk about a sequel NOBODY is asking for. This is the kind of sequel you expect to show up direct-to-video starring like Larry the Cable Guy instead of Robin Williams

They should make it a trilogy. And split the last one into two parts.

The other daughter retired from acting as well. Not sure about the male child.

I had an idea for a legit sequel once. The youngest daughter is grown and is going off to Africa on a humanitarian mission for the first time, and Scott is so nervous for her safety he applies as Mrs. Doubtfire for a cook/chief job with the mission. He tries to keep an eye on her and she is forced to pretend she doesn't really know it's her Dad, cause if anyone found out her Dad was dressing in drag and a part of their mission, they'd both be sent home. lol

"Helloooooo!" All the bashing people, lord calm down. I haven't heard of this news I admit, hmm anyway, I liked the first one as much as any one did and it's not entirely uncommon for a sequel after a 20 year gap. Look at Dumb and Dumber after all to see that, or some other sequels that may or may not happen (Beetlejuice) *cough*. Although this movie may not top any one's list for a sequel after all this time, Robin Williams is a funny guy and yeah he's older, but if it has a good script similar to the first then I will be all for it.

This is what happens when a movie career fades. You go for a sequel in an attempt to have a hit and be relevant again. Look at Arnold looking to Terminator, Conan and even Twins. Or Eddie Murphy wanting Beverly Hills Cop 4.

Doesn't explain Tom Cruise's interest in Top Gun 2 though. He doesn't need it. Unless Val Kilmer is bugging him for it to happen.
