Default Anyone else wait until around Black Friday to load up on desired titles?

I'm kind of amazed at how many people splurge on "day one" purchases, paying $25 to $30 (or more) per movie. During Black Friday, it seems like many of my wishlist titles end up going for a 1/2 or a 1/3 of what others are willing to pay.

Does anybody else wait until around Black Friday or Prime Day to load up on stuff they want?

One thing I used to do, back when Walmart was price-matched, bought early and watched for a price drop and collect the difference. I rarely purchase a title for $25+, as I usually wait for a sale.

I buy the majority of my titles on Black Friday. It’s pretty much everything released by the major studios throughout the year. I also buy boutique label titles almost exclusively through sales. I rarely, and I mean rarely, buy anything during the first month of release, let alone the first day. Unless it’s a limited edition release, I wait for price drop or a sale, I am in no rush to get anything.

Generally I wait till black friday but this year they haven't really put anything out to begin with so I'm not sure how its going to go. Hopefully black friday has some stuff I'm interested in.

I'm ashamed to say that I probably haven't watched 90%+ of previous BF hauls. But to better answer the question, "yes."

I like collecting slipcovers so I won't wait for most titles but for ones that were released in the last 2 or 3 months before Black Friday I'll wait.

I’m pretty much waiting for BF for my tv shows on blu-ray. 10 bucks is better than 30-40 bucks.

Yeah. A huge portion of my 4k collection was $5 each or less by waiting until BF and then selling the digital code.

I used to hold out for Black Friday sales. I haven't these days because:
  • I don't want to miss out on limited editions (including steelbooks or slips or whatever)
  • I don't want to miss out on a title that might go OOP really fast
  • Sometimes I just want instant gratification
  • As great as BF deals can be, they rarely affect the titles I really want, which are often the boutique label releases that rarely go on sale anyway--might as well buy them now when they're available

Aren't sales going to start happening soon? I recall October's ravaging my bank account.

Kino and Shout Factory will be having sales in October for sure. There will probably be more as well.

I pretty much hold off on major studio releases starting mid-summer since those are the most likely to get the BF treatment.

Hoping for discounts on these (basically in order of release so you can see what I've been holding off on):
Nobody
48 Hours & Another 48 Hours
Mortal Kombat
Wrath of Man
A Quiet Place Part II
Those Who Wish Me Dead
Luca
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard
The Conjuring 3
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms
Zack Snyder's Justice League
Cruella
F9
Breakdown
The Forever Purge

Not sure if much from October will get the deep cuts so I'm leaving off most of those.

Then there's Vinegar Syndrome and Severin where I'll be catching up on sale items.

Most other studios don't have BF sales so I pick up releases whenever they have their own sales (like Shout and Kino in October).

That's why I don't buy online unless it's a title that I can't find. Amazon and others can't guarantee the slip cover.

Honestly, it doesn't change my habits. But, I do tend to wait a few weeks after a new title's release before I purchase it. The only reason is because you can typically get the new movie for around $9.99-14.99. The Arrowverse season sets are always on sale during Black Friday, typically around $14.99 per set, so, I never buy those sets until around Black Friday.

There are a few titles I want to purchase, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy on 4K, the Bourne collection on 4K, possibly the Indiana Jones on 4K. Other than that, there's not a whole lot I'm actually looking for. I expect most of my purchases will be through Amazon anyways. I dislike going to the stores on Black Friday weekend, simply because shoppers don't know how to act.

I wait till Black Friday to load up on stuff I would never pay full price for.
