Paranormal Activity: The Other Side (Oct. 2022)

Paranormal Activity 8 was announced a while back, as Paramount clearly sees promise in the new reboot of the franchise. As such Paranormal Activity: The Other Side is already in production with director Wincent Sommers at the helm. This is Sommers’ second time tackling a horror sequel, following a 2020 directorial debut with Slender Man: Origins. Interestingly, Oren Peli himself is returning to pen the script for the follow-up.

Next of Kin isn't going to set the movie world on fire but it was a solid production with competent staff and a decent premise. I Felt it was significantly better than parts 4,5,6 but not quite as good as parts 1,2,3 placing it firmly in the middle of the pack and thus ripe for further sequels as it does just enough right to keep the franchise going. (I rated it a 3.5 out of 5 overall thanks to a good 3rd act).

I love this franchise and even the bad entries (Part 4 I'm looking at you) I don't mind that much and so I am 100% on board with further entries and will be first in line to check them out, and purchase those Blu Rays.

One thing I will say is that I am expecting/hoping that there is no connection to Next of Kin as that film has taken the franchise in the direction of allowing each sequel to be it's own standalone story and so I'd rather see another new idea as opposed to a continuation of where/how Next of Kin ends (though a continuation sequel wouldn't be bad necessarily).

This appears to be a German fan film that gives Peli a screenwriting credit because it's based on "the film Paranormal Activity by Oren Peli".
