Default Leprechaun Origins Blu-ray - September 30, 2014

Source:

IMDB

"Leprechaun's search for gold and bloodshed will not be seen on the big screen. Rather, he'll resume his reign of terror on DVD and VOD when Leprechaun: Origins arrives on August 26th (VOD) and September 30th (DVD/Blu-ray). So much for that rumored "big screen return," eh? (Somewhere, Warwick Davis cackles at this.)

WWE Studios and Lionsgate are handling distribution and, this morning, EW has debuted the trailer which you can watch here.

Zach Lipovsky directs this entry which is said to be a more serious take on the horror icon. The film concerns some couples backpacking in Ireland who "quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be be when [a] town’s residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Soon, the friends will find that one of Ireland’s most famous legends is a terrifying reality."

Hornswoggle plays the malicious creature and look for Brendan Fletcher (Freddy vs. Jason, Ginger Snaps), too!"

Must be pretty bad if they're not even showing him in the trailer.

If that Leprechaun Box Set turns out to be legit, then I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that September 30th will also be the release date for that set as well. I have 0 interest in Origins, but I'm excited for the box set.

I caught the end of an interview with Hornswoggle a few weeks back and he commented that the make-up takes a different direction and that he "only laughs" and has no dialogue scenes. He also said that it's connection to the previous films are in-name-only.

That's what I was afraid of.

I didn't take a screenshot (though someone should), but there are a couple places in the trailer where you can see him, but very blurry. From what I could see he looked a bit like Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

I sincerely hope this doesn't end up sucking as hard as it looks like it might.

The book they are reading in the trailer shows a picture that makes me think this is exactly how he will look.

Hopefully Hornswoggle does his own stunts.

I went back and yikes!

There's another scene in the trailer where the side of his head is shown and its definitely got that ^ look to it. From what I could see at least. The images are so intentionally quick and out of focus, so really who knows what the full head-to-toe makeup will look like. I'm trying to hold on to what little hope I can.

So they're taking a series popular for being cheesy and humorous, and trying to make it serious? Ummm....

Yeah.. not sure that's going to work with the character.

It's like playing Chucky totally serious. It doesn't really work. It needs to at least be tongue in cheek.

I don't expect much from this movie at all, but I'll give it a shot. The other Leprechaun movies weren't anything special either, except for one thing. Warwick Davis was clearly having a blast in the title role, and it made them fun to watch. But remove Davis from the equation, and we're left with... well, we'll find out soon I guess.

Not really. There was still a tongue in cheek aspect to the films. Which is why they work.

But this Leprechaun isn't even remotely related to the one we know and love. Right?

You don't win over fans by not including the titular character that literally MADE the franchise, on top of the fact that you aren't keeping the only actor that has ever played him, in the role.

Assuming we don't end up with a similar Leprechaun, or weird twist ending with Warwick showing up? Stranger things have happened...

I saw some of this movie on Syfy and I remember going 'whoops I thought this was an entry in the Leprechaun series.' Once I realized it has no relation, I could not suffer through any more of the bad acting, cheap look, and un-engaging script/story.

I don't understand why this is going in the Leprechaun boxset.
