I recently purchased a Nicpow projector off Amazon last “Prime Day” (along with a giant screen) and I am really enjoying having my own little movie theater in the living room, much to the chagrin of my wife.
I’m not a big tech person, I rigged a sound bar up to it and that’s fine for me, however, the projector won’t run audio for films with Dolby sound nor will it play sound for DVDs. My 3 and a half year old son has, by some miracle, become fond of the Jungle Jim films and old Tarzans. I’d love to be able to watch these on my giant screen with him. Can anyone please bring recommend a projector that works with DVDs and/or one that works with Dolby sound? “Boy’s nights” with my son have become a weekly occurrence now, where we camp out on the living room floor and fall asleep watching everything from Abbot and Costello meet the Mummy to Ghostbusters to the Iron Giant…it’s been a bummer a few times when we throw something in and the sound doesn’t work. I’d be willing to fork out some cash for a new one if it would support dvd and/or Dolby audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! -Stan |

Like gkolb posted, we'd need more information on your sound bar and player.
Looking at the Nic Pow projectors, they don't seem to have ARC, so you're running a 3.5mm Audio Out lead to the sound bar? If you're using a DVD player and it doesn't have an HDMI output, you're using yellow composite video and red/white phono audio leads into the projector? You might have to change the audio output options on the DVD player, but it depends on how you're connecting things. |

I recently bought something very similar, and although I was happy enough with the image (it's to complement a 4K TV, sort of lazy Sunday-afternoon viewing) the fan on it sounds like a sodding jet engine, in spite of claims to the contrary. My 1000wt Sony amp fights to come out on top when the projector is on, and this is a common problem with budget ones! I was given a replacement, and just as bad.
Anyway, enough of this aimless rant (I do feel slightly better now), and what I'll say is that I have the blu-ray player hooked up to my amp via the phono-out, allowing multi-channel audio and obviously anything which the player can output, all with no problems. If your sound-bar has a digital phono input, then hooking the player directly to it is probably your best bet. Last edited by CompleteCount; 11-09-2021 at 06:13 PM. |
