Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992 film)
While not all that accurate to the original novel as it likes to appears to be, it's still a worthy adaptation. |

I'll also throw my support out to "Bram Stoker's Dracula". Even its flaws are minuscule when compared to what a visually stimulating experience Coppola makes from start to end, aided by the raw versatility of Gary Oldman's performance, Wojciech Kilar's score and arguably the greatest costumes ever created for a film by the late Eiko Ishioka.

First place is Frank Langella (primarily for nostalgia reasons though it is good). Second place is Dracula (a.k.a. Horror of Dracula) from 1958. Third is Coppola. Nosferatu doesn't count even though it's the same story, but if it did count it would probably be number one, with Herzog's version coming in at number five.
Of all the Draculas, Oldman definitely has the best performance (though he was given a lot more to work with in the script than in any other version). |

The Hammer Dracula (The Horror of Dracula in the US) from 1958 together with the sequel Prince of Darkness. Christopher Lee was the perfect Dracula and nobody has surpassed him since.
Murnau's Nosferatu would be my second choice. I'm not a fan of Bram Stoker's Dracula apart from the costumes. Turning Dracula into a romantic sop is always a bad idea, but even then I prefer the Frank Langella Dracula from 1979. Unlike the chintzy Coppola film, at least that one managed to come up with a couple of scares. The Bela Lugosi Dracula hasn't dated very well and I prefer the Spanish alternative version, shot consecutively. |
